I'd just like to say, chloromancer kicks ass.

Perceived wear and tear isn't really what I'm griping about, and I guess I would more welcome the variance if look changed based on durability (though in general, I hate durability systems on equipment). And while I don't expect the fanciest of shit to grace my avatar in the mid-levels, what I am saying is that it was almost too basic. I don't need fancy glowy sparkly, but even if I am wearing a bikini plate top, it could look a bit more menacing.
Well, after the 6 day event, i can say i was stoked as all hell at first, but now, eh... I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this, though. Issues like the camera quickly moving itself behind my character when im trying to pan around, and getting dismounted whenever a mob so much as sneezes at me is really grating. If there's no flying mounts or at least a far quicker way to move about the world, It'll just not be for me. I have high hopes, though. I do want this game to succeed. Time will tell.
A few more portals couldn't hurt there, I'd agree. I never really dicked around with a mount, so I can't say being forced off bothered me. I can see the logic in preventing people from getting too easily into areas, but I guess that boils down to there being no level gap cut-off on aggro. Maybe it could be like 10 levels on foot, then the quality of the mount can reduce the gap to maybe -3 with the best possible.
Flying mounts is something that i hope never happens. The game world as it is right now is just not large enough for them. Not to mention they would completely destroy world PVP. Every zone already has a portal and with the level 40 mount, you can get anywhere in each zone within a few minutes.
Please God, keep the flying mounts out. They wouldn't even make sense in this world anyway, being as how we can basically fly ourselves through limited means (cutscenes, guardian elf racial). Lets not even talk about what they'd do to world PVP.
For example, the Defiants went out with a bang last night by attempting to sack and control every major Guardian town, and used some pretty sneaky tactics in some of their raids. Somehow they managed to climb directly outside of the main wall of Sanctum (bypassing the fatigue-laden water below) and picked off stragglers and NPCs while a larger forced attacked the main gates. They also tag-teamed with a massive fire invasion of Gloamwood Pines that resulted in at least 75% of the town being completely overrun and occupied by either hundreds of regulars/elites, with defiant staking out the upper and outer regions of the town. It turned into a mad-house for anyone trying to get through the town, let alone take it back. With flyers, people could simply sit up in the clouds like in WoW and avoid everything, including any actual PVE threats as well.
@Arus: I guess we just have different tastes. I've loved everything from Dragoon AF2 to FFXIV's cowls to WoW's S2 Hunter gear and inbetween. I get a really good vibe from some of Rift's gear because of its middleground between realistic and "cartoony" designs. Granted, some of the gear is lackluster - I'll admit, but this is a genre that we're allowed to compare and contrast between titles, and what I've seen here certainly beats out quite a bit of what I've seen in other games.
I see your point, though. The game could already use more variety of designs for the early levels, but (thankfully?) the 40+ gear looks very well done. Every time I see that flaming bow the Dev was playing around with, I want to scrap my plans to roll Warrior / Mage at launch and go Rogue to get my hands on it.
I'll admit, i went from 6 to 12 when i saw that flaming bow.
Do I get this or not....MVC3 is taking up too much time and now Killzone 3....grrrr
A co-worker mentioned a Feb 24th headstart for this, how and true/false?
Yep, head start is Thursday at 1pm est.
I actually am a huge fan of the armor looks in the game for what i was able to see. Thank god that plate looks like plate armor, cloth looks like cloth, and chain armor looks like chain armor. I'm not really expecting amazingly beautiful armor sets before end game, which hasn't been available to us yet at all in any shape or form. Even if they did give us gorgeously crafted armor sets before then, i would frown upon it. The best looking gear should be the best gear in the game. If they give us that early then we have nothing special when we get better gear.
The chain body from planerite vendors that i picked up was blue quality, and it was decorated pretty nicely, even if it was a 'welfare' peice, and meant for the 10-19 bracket. It was nice to show they acknowledge better gear with better detail. I'm assuming that higher level armor is whats being showcased on their soul pages on the main site, so if i go off that assumption then i don't think there is anything to worry about. We'll all be decked out in full plate soon enough, except the mage.
I'm kinda torn on if I should pick up the game or not. My XI sub's been down for the month since I needed to get away, and while the general solo quest grind was just kinda meh, I've been contemplating how feasible solely rifting would be to just gear myself up within the level ranges of an area. I think I recall reading that rift frequency was upped for the beta, but if it's diminished in retail, that might be a more difficult goal. Plus I only dabbled in some shades of the Warrior, so not sure if there's something else I'd like more.
Speaking of armor:
http://www.riftgame.com/en/classes/index.php
Some of the armors you see each class wearing in that link are already in the game. At 42 I had the Pyromancer armor on my mage.
Edit: Oh, was mentioned a few posts above mine. Oh well, just adding that a few of those are in the game. They aren't the better looking (or more intimidating) ones though.
I had that first champ armor full, painted dark grey with red outlines. Shit looked awesome. I'd ride into town or into the 10 zone on my black horse and people would light up. "Holy shit dude, a dark knight!"
There's also some great mage gear with those high mage-y collars that make you look like an archmage. (Edit: The pyromancer set on that page, dyed up interesting colors.) Some of the different pieces really fit together well. Pretty stoked for Thursday.
I'm curious....is there any interest in opening up a section in the gamming section for rift once release? Probably asking too much, but i figure since lolaion is there along with WoW, and since i figure this game will be big too....i dunno?
So you gotta pre order the premium edition or something to get in at head start?
preorder any edition
Who are these people in beta that report nonsense and where can i find them? Our single target dps was fine, it was our aoe skills that needed a buff. While the pedestal at 50 pretty much makes up the difference, our damage before that is still way under certain warriors and mages.
MARKSMAN
* Swift Shot: Damage reduced.
* Empowered Shot: Damage reduced.
* Deadeye Shot: Damage reduced.
* Strafe: Damage reduced.
* Hasted Shot: Damage reduced.
* Marksman’s Pedestal: Damage bonus has been increased from 5% to 10%.
* Sniper’s Pedestal: Damage bonus has been increased from 25% to 30%.
That's basically all the beta forums were was a bunch of idiots crying to nerf every class that wasn't theirs. I was thinking about doing MM for launch, but I'm not so sure now. I'm surprised they didn't nerf Saboteur as well with all the crying going on about that class.
Was seriously thinking of picking this game up with my girlfriend but MM was the only class that remotely interested me. Seriously rethinking this one now.![]()
