somehow i doubt its gonna be any different come live. Anybody who wants to play the game has already pre-ordered it and is playing it right now. I'm not even sure why they are bothering to differentiate between head start and release, to anybody serious about playing the game its pretty much the same thing.

guess i should have added another "right now" somewhere in my post. If anybody wanted to play right now they would probably pre-order it, rather than wait til next week. I'd be surprised if official release brought around another round of flood gates though. Delightfully surprised.

I think it will; you have to think of the people that will tell their friends, or those that were on the fence, hearing about the fun people are having. I think there will be a pretty big zerg heading through the doors come March.

Gonna be a lot of haters, but the genre needed a game that could give people that enjoy this style relief from Azeroth. I've been having a blast just dicking around with so many souls. Tanks to heals to melee Deeps to ranged Deeps to ranged spike to tanking dots... there's just so much to try out.

I don't know about convincing but...

The combat works similar to WoW, but with a heavy return to support roles. If you played during BC, a number of specs have shadow-priest like healing abilities. And bards have a glorious amount of buffs.

You also get a pinch of FFXI in that there are only 4 callings (classes/jobs) and a whole lot of Souls per, which allows you to switch between a large variety of roles on one character. You get quad-spec (eventually) to be able to do different things. For instance I'm looking at my Cleric being a Justicar (tank), Purifier (disc priest) and Warden (resto druid) and still deciding on what my 4th will be. And I can quickly and easily swap between them and utilize mostly the same gear (justicar needs a shield, obviously).

Actual gameplay works just like WoW, except you'll have campaign-like Rifts in every zone. More rifts and invasions occur with more people and come in varying levels, to being soloable by most classes to needing a decent sized raid group to clear. You can level through quests, battlegrounds, dungeons as well as these Rifts, so you have 4 options instead of 3. And gear acquisition and everything will be the same at 50, so there's essentially a whole other part of an MMO because of the Rift aspect. At endgame Rifts will also be able to function like popped NM's in FFXI by luring out expert level/raid content Rifts.

As for the other discussion, I'm not certain there will be a big rush at the door at launch, however I'd bet you once the reviews come out from people that this isn't turning out like AoC/Warhammer/Aion/etc. tons of people will make the switch. I know one of my buddies asked his guild about it and they were too fed up with all the other MMO's being a waste of money to try on this one...but those people will switch when it's shown this isn't failing like the others.

That said, we still have to wait and see if it won't fail. All signs point to things working great down the line, but things can get fucked up any step of the way.

Imagine: Gameplay/quest structure of Wow, Job system of ffxi (Multiplied by like 200 combos), with the public quests of warhammer (and possibly RvR soon if they meant it). Adding to that, some/most of the playstyles of some souls are "Out there", and i haven't seen them anywhere else really....plus Trion actually listens and responds to feedback more than any other company i know..... If you're broke though, wait a bit =P
