1up: FF14 WILL NOT be on xbox 360

Despite persistent rumors the contrary, Final Fantasy XIV won't be appearing on the Xbox 360.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, creator Hiromichi Tanaka said that the problem lies with the "closed" nature of Xbox Live.

"[Live is] different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice," he said.

"Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We're still talking to... We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox Live."

Interestingly, Final Fantasy XI is one of the few MMOs currently available on the Xbox 360. Tanaka didn't elaborate on the differences between the two.

Final Fantasy XIV will be available on the PS3 and PC later this year.

I'm in two minds about it, being on xbox would increase user base if there was a simulaneous 360/ps3 launch - but on the other side of it - who the fuck wants the first expansion to come out and hear "360 limitations".

Final Fantasy XIV would be unable to run on a x360 anyways. Look at the benchmark scores that people have personally provided, look at all them quad cores doing way better than single/double. There's no way that x360's 3 core machine can run the game feasibly. You need a quad core at the bare minimum to enjoy FFXIV without any major stutters. Why would Square program for the past anyways? 6/8 cores is the future and it basically will future proof FFXIV for a long time. 3 cores would hold it back.

Fortunately, the PS3 has 8 cores :D And the latest AMD/Intel offerings are desktop 6 cores. Soon, 8 cores will be out either late this year/spring of 2011. Cannot personally wait. x360 already crashes in Besieged, imagine what it would do in FFXIV lol.

Now, the REAL question is... will FFXIV run on xbox 720? I am sure that system is already in the works, 8 cores, ATI 5870+ graphics. Microsoft can't sit this one out since FFXIV is basically THE next gen MMO of this generation. And $300.00 is a drop in the bucket compared to building a great PC for around $1500.00... add $1000.00 if you go the Intel route I still can't fathom paying more $ per GHz for an Intel personally but to each their own.

XI released on Xbox before Microsoft revamped how they market Xbox Live to companies, and the contracts dealing with it. So if another MMO was to be on the Xbox, you would need a Gold membership + the MMO membership. I'm looking for the article that explains this a bit better.
