Laptop stuck shutting down

Dumb question, but my fiancee went to shut down her laptop last night around 10pm and when I got up to log her character on this morning at around 6am it was still downloading the 5th update out of 5. Since 6am it is STILL downloading the 5th update. I tried force restarting but all pressing the power button does is put it in hibernate. Are there updates that are really this long or is it stuck and should I just yank the battery?

I'm guessing you've already solved this problem but If you hold the power button down it should kill the power (you'll here the fan click off). Anyways if you need some more you can post or pm me.
