I am sure the media created a larger story than really existed in what happened. All they really did from what I can tell was deny he was the Stig until the last second and then replace him (which could have been planned before he announced it). If you read stories about it, they make it seem like there was serious bad blood though.

the identity of the stig is actually one of the best kept secrets of the BBC and Top Gear, when he decided to publish a tell all they got pissed naturally. Normally when a stig leaves they replace them and they can admit they were the stig later, but he was using his fame as the stig to sell his thing

Not only that but I remember that Jeremy said in an interview that his feelings were hurt that Ben Collins would do such a thing because he would invite him over to his house and hang out.

The comments about the new Stig knowing that "you never rat on your mates", unlike the old one; the drive-by shootings of a Stig cardboard cut-out and various other scenes from the episodes directly following his sacking and on the Top Gear blogs make it clear there was bad blood.

Tbh, the BBC handled the whole thing poorly... suing basically confirmed his claims; they could've just denied he was the Stig and sacked/replaced him in secret (by someone else than the new Stig, though, the difference in stature is too obvious). Instead of being known as "the old Stig"; Ben Collins'd be known as "that guy who claimed he was the Stig, but quite obviously isn't".



Funnily enough, tree huggers were already whining about the last ep before it was aired; they'd seen Jeremy&James in a the Leaf&that Peugeot thing.
In reaction to the segment (and probably inspired by the ridiculous uproar), Nissan might pull a Tesla.

I don't understand, to be honest. The most negative thing TG said about those cars? They mentionned the price.
40000 pounds is the price of a 1M; 1M vs unpractical, slow, ugly, no-legroom Peugeot? I'll have the 1M.

On that note, I have to commend Peugeot. Just when I thought Citroën had made the ugliest cars (the whole range) in history, they come up with that hideous electric thing. The ball's in Renault's court, now.
They'll have to come up with something even uglier than the Velsatis to beat this Peugeot.

Quite a silly lawsuit, they never called the car per se bad, just the lack of infrastructure at the moment, the stupid long charge times and the batteries.

To be accurate, they're not suing. They might, but they aren't atm. Just whining in a newspaper.

But yeah, apparently, "good, unbiased" motoring journalists are those that brush those important issues under the carpet. Journalistic integrity is all about forgetting half the facts, isn't it?
