I love this show. I read recently they are doing a U.S.A ver. on the History channel starting this Sunday I believe. I plan to DVR it and check it out. anyone else?

My guess is that it is going to be terrible.
Certainly needs to be a good chemistry between the presenters, and it'll be hard to replicate that. Not only that, but in the US they rarely give shows a chance to mature in to something great. Top Gear UK in it's first few seasons wasn't anything near the show it is now, it grew over time. In the US if a show doesn't pull in millions of viewers every week it gets canned after the first season, or its budget dramatically cut in subsequent seasons. I guess that can be seen as a benefit (or curse) of having a tax funded, commercial free broadcasting station like the BBC.
Then again this is the History channel anyway, I doubt they're used to million figure viewers so maybe they'll stick with it and it'll turn in to something great. A bit maybe, though.
Australian versions is terrible, US version will probably be also.
I dont get why they stopped airing the UK version over here. They used to have that shit on the Discovery Channel and thats how I found out about this show in teh first place.
Anyways, the promos theyve been running look stupid, it just looks like 3 idiots w/ cars, seems the geniuses that created this don't get that Top Gear UK is about more then just cars lol, I highly doubt theyll capture the humor/banter of jeremy/richard/james...
Series was short and it's now over. IIRC they cut it short cause they were spending more time with each other than with their families. They'll be back tho sometime this month I think. Also sucks they didn't show that brilliant Senna segment over here on BBC America. Why would they cut it?
Exactly!Anyways, the promos theyve been running look stupid, it just looks like 3 idiots w/ cars, seems the geniuses that created this don't get that Top Gear UK is about more then just cars lol, I highly doubt theyll capture the chemistry of jeremy/richard/james...
They really should have thrown Adam Corolla in there with Foust. I don't even know who the other two guys are. Will see episode 1 since I can but expecting the series to bomb.
Next Top Gear UK episode will be the Middle East Christmas special, can't wait. Should probably expect Gran Turismo 5 to make an appearance next season most probably, seeing as Top Gear test track is in GT5, as well as The Stig and his lap times. Jeremy had a segment with GT4 quite a number of years back.
Ugh, Cinematography and camera work sucks so far. Which is a large part of Top Gear's charm.
I'll stick out the US version for a few episodes, I've seen all of the UK and although after watching it now I love them all but even the first season was not perfect. Jalopnik says they start to hit a good rhythm by episode 3 so at least till then.
The show has potential I think, but for the moment you'll have to deal with the production quality I'm sure. Not many people remember, but BBC had a big issue with Topgear UK consuming a large portion of their budget because of their over spending on production. I'd say you wont see a marked increase at least until the next season when they can evaluate their financial situation.
Got to give it a chance. As people have stated Topgear UK didn't come into it's own until a few seasons(I believe the first 5 seasons sucked). That being said, the Viper and Cobra segment sucked. The questioning of Buzz sucked as well. Other than that it wasn't a horrible episode.
Has the speculation on my American Cousin started yet?![]()
New Top Gear US is on hurray! 1st part was way better than anything last week. Also the Aston was well shot almost on part with OG TopGear, much better. This episode is pretty watchable.
Also, for anyone not on the ball with Top Gear UK
Series 16 starts in mid/late January, but there will be a late December/Christmas special.
There is ALSO, a just released special, Top Gear: Apocalypse (which only has May and Hammond), but is NEW content, not a "best of" release. Apocalypse is NOT the December special.
Adam Carolla was going to be the host for the US version. He did the pilot but it didn't go anywhere; which was originally shot for NBC. Then he was working for NBC on another pilot when they called him to do Top Gear. The dude is funny and knows a shit ton of cars. He's good friends w/ Jay Leno and is always commenting about cars. In fact, Adam has another cast entitled 'carcast,' but yeah, sucks he ain't hosting.
