The Stig Fired from BBC
Or, at least, Ben Collins, because we have a feeling the Stig will be back to haunt Google Streetview...
According to reports which surfaced on The Daily Mirror, BBC became fed up with all the huss and fuss around Collins' persona and decided to let him go. And, apparently, his shoes have already been filled by a new guy.
The proof the British source has for these claims? A set of photos which, placed one next to the other, show that Ben Collins has no way of being the Stig. One of the photos show the Stig while on location with a BBC team at the Nurburgring while another shows Ben Collins while enjoying a quality family time some 1,100 miles away (1,770 km).
There's no telling who the new Stig might be, but of course, BBC is keeping this a carefully guarded secret as well. On the other hand, the mess surrounding the Stig story which hit the British media not only these past two weeks has deepened the characters' mystery even deeper.
For us, the two photos showing the two embodiments of presumably the same person so far away from one another means, more or less, nothing. As we said, BBC regards the Stig as one of their best assets. As Andy Wilman, the producer of the Top Gear show said the Stig belongs to BBC.
This pretty much means the network can always claim Collins was not really the Stig, despite some circumstantial evidence which surfaced last week. And even if he was, he might have no way of proving it.
I thought Michael Schumacher was the Stig?
Underneath the helmet, is another helmet.
No, that was just a publicity stunt. The Black Ferrari FXX that was tested most likely was the same Black Ferrari given to Schumacher upon his retirement, and in order to have the car on the show, he'd be the only one to drive it, so they just dressed him up as the Stig. If the rumor is true (which I believe it to be) there isn't one stig, well there is a main Stig, but when it comes to certain supercars by manufacturers (Ferrari, Bugatti, etc), they use their own test drivers and dress them up as the Stig, because they'd rather have someone in their camp who is familiar with the car drive it, plus it takes liability off the BBC's shoulders if their test driver wrecked the car.
I was making a joke >_>, I realize it was a publicity stunt b/c there was plenty of proof at the time that he and 'Stig" had been in different places at the same time. And yeah my theory on the Stig is constant 1 guy that teaches stars to drive the track/does stuff like their 4 way race across London and various others for different cars and such.
New Episode is up on finalgear for those of you who didn't get to see it live.
But not in HD
Spoiler: show
Kind of a disappointing episode to start the season with after the epicness of the 2 specials over the holidays..
edit: NVM the Beetle/Porsche stuff in South Africa, redeem this episode.
Oh, come on, Jeremy's review of the Skoda Yeti was pure genius.
As usual with his "thorough reviews", he realises it's pointless to talk about the car's objective worth and makes up nonsensical entertaining "tests". Loved the tatoo part.
Also, Tom Cruise is going to be pissed his record was broken by a whole 2 seconds. He's probably never even heard of John Bishop.
