Honestly there is nothing wrong with 100,000 and 200,000 mile + cars if you are capable of working on them.

There was one that popped up when I did a quick search a 1993 with ~130k miles for only $12,000 total but a new engine with only 28k miles. Would probably need a 3rd clutch within 20-30k and various other shit along the way but I really don't drive much so I don't mind.

Shit keeps me busy too. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I teach myself things when I'm interested in them and it keeps me from getting bored.

Edit: Honestly, 5 RX7's? Why did you have so many? lol

How different is working on the rotary if you did your own work?

Another major factor in insurance is just being over 25. The same applies for when you rent a car, if you're 25+, renting a car is dirt cheap.

    Because they're cheap.

I would love to own an RX7 FC. FDs are nice, but I doubt they handle as well as an FC. FCs and S13 240sx are the two most insane handling cars I've ever driven in my life.

I love my VWs... and everytime I sell one I can't wait to get another... but I've been thinking about swapping to a FC for a while. RWD and rotary 4tw.

My first car was a 91 240SX Hatch. The handling was amazing in that car.

Go and test drive a Miata for fun, the handling on those is equal to a 240 w/ beefed up suspension.

Once you swap the sway bars out in the miata it handles like a go cart lol.

    Edit:

It was my first "real" car. I did have a couple pos's before the 240.

Nice Rims and good color choice.

I love the Mugen front bumper on that car. The one with the air induction spot right on there.

So, my mind is pretty set on hoarding what extra cash I can afford to and buying a high-mileage used car probably right at the beginning of spring next year or the year after (snows to fuck in the winters here).

Gonna brush up on my mechanic skills until then, I'm a quick study when it comes to cars (again, did most of the work on my Lexus and BMW myself, just needed to take the time to learn it) so I'll probably be asking a thousand questions via PM to those of you who do work on cars lol.

Going to save so I can keep my scion for rain / snow / long trips etc.

Way I see it, $15,000 is my maximum for car + repairs. Anything I spend under $15,000 I can put right back into repairing the engine. If I spend $15,000 on the car and it breaks, I'm fucked. So, give me your opinion guys, gonna rough-estimate some prices with miles and I'll keep it in mind.

    Mazda RX-7 1993 80,000-120,000 miles - $10,000-$13,000
1985 Porsche 944 50,000-100,000 miles $4,000-$9,000 (4 cylinder model but my favorite porsche since it looks nothing like the porsches today)
Mazda Miata (newer model) 50,000ish miles ~$14,000
Nissan 300zx any year last gen 80,000-150,000 miles $8,000-$15,000

Open to suggestions. Leaning towards the Porsche since I love the car and it gives me the most room for logical and necessary repairs. I love the front end of these cars.

Next spring I'll be 25 so insurance won't be as much of an issue and it will have been 6 years since the bulk of my speeding tickets so they will drop off my record (fuck. yes.)

Feel free to toss out other options. I'm keeping a list and will be shopping the fuck around.

    Porsche...... ehhhhhh

If you really like it, go for it. I would venture to guess the aftermarket support isn't anywhere near as strong for that as it is for the other options. That means you're paying more for parts (that you will be paying more for already b/c it's a porsche).

Not positive on the above yet, porsches aren't really my thing. I do like the body style you posted though.

    If it were me....

    1 - 300ZX Twin Turbo
    2 - RX-7
3 - Miata (06-08 only, 09+ has that stupid smiley looking face)
    4 - Porsche

If the 300ZX wasn't twin turbo I'd put it at #3 and move the RX-7 and miata up 1 spot.

    Forgot to mention:

06+ MX-5 is on the low end of aftermarket support as well, since that chassis code is relatively new. All of the good body style shit you need to import yourself from either japan or germany.

Engine components and those type of upgrades things are found here easily.

Insurance on the miata is dirt cheap as well.

I love the 944, I know if you look hard enough you can find a good 944Turbo for under 15k. (Youre in Mass, right? I'm in CT and I know I've seen some nice ones btw 10-15k around here. I'll keep an eye out.) And you can get antique insurance which is a bonus on price. Unique car, which are classic and look sexy as hell when done right.

The RX7 I imagine you'll be hard pressed to do your own repairs, and parts will be a bitch if you ever need them. But I do love the FD.

Miata. Eh... fun car to drive, but I wouldnt want to own one.

    300Z I have a soft spot for, having owned a Z31 (1985). I always wanted a TT Z32, and I know 10-15k will buy a nice one.

    My ranking?
    1. Porsche
    2. Tie: RX7/300ZX
    4. Miata

Edit: Also, between the top choices (well, everything but the Miata) the Porsche is WAY less likely to have been beat to hell when compared to the 300 and RX7. Just food for thought.

Yeah..any cheap RX7's are beat to hell and will have 8+ owners. Run any vins through carfax AND your insurance carrier. They will pick up a lot of extra stuff.

Turning 25/26 and having a few tickets roll off (leaving only a no seatbelt) + the way insurance agencys secretly changed the way they calculate their formulas about a month ago, I'm paying a bit over a third of what I once was.

I would get the porsche. It seems as to be what you anyways, there are in fact a ton of parts and mods for 944, a huge knowledge base, and historical status now. Its laughable how little it is.

    I'm interested in this.

I'm in NY as well. I'm 26, and I'm paying around $175/Month for full converage on the Miata with $500 deductibles. I have (1) $1,800 claim and no tickets. Geico is the cheapest I've found in NY.

My policy renews in October, I'll post the new rate I get once they send it to me. The only change would be what Krystl just mentioned, since that claim I mentioned above doesn't come off to December.

Edit: Policy includes towing as well. That adds $5/month to the basic premium. So $170ish/month for bare minimum for a financed brand new miata.

This is one of my bigger incentives. I know old Porsche owners are FANATICALLY meticulous about their cars and I would have an answer to any question that would ever come up that Porsche themselves may not even be able to answer.

And yeah Sano, actually a bit closer to CT than I used to live. I'm not sure it's worth the turbo for me but if you see any decently priced ones let me know. I have to get through this full school year before I can qualify for scholarships next year and have a bit more breathing room. I'll look at anything you can find but non-turbo is probably how I'll go (a Porsche turbo can always be added later and the cooling system etc adjusted accordingly when I have more money).

$4,000-$6,000 for a non turbo,1-2 owner car IS a better deal than a 4+ owner RX-7 with double the miles and double the price. That's something that I'm finding hard to ignore. It is hilarious how cheap they are.

Leaning towards the Porsche but would love to keep having some input.

For a car as old as I am the interior is still nice too.

    Edit: lol wrong computer.

Honestly, looking around, if I am serious about the porsche about ~$600 of my budget would have to go to something similar to this http://www.deutschnine.com/mm5/merch...-aero-dynamics

I despise pop-up headlights more than I can say. Hinders the aerodynamic quality of your car as well which, amongst other things, is going to lower your average mpg every time you put the headlights up.

I have a quick question about Auto Insurance.

My car's insurance is in my parent's name. It's minimum liability, Progressive Insurance. Am I covered if I get in an accident or am pulled over by the police. What about Full Coverage.
