Hawkeye FTW
I wouldn't mind a bug-eyed wagon. Never really liked them as sedans tho.
The only good thing about the hatchbacks is not having a park bench for a spoiler =/

I have an 06 sti, love/hate relationship
tons of fun when its running, breaks...a lot.
going on my 3rd motor within 2 years, also went through a rear diff, a couple axles, various other stupid things
yes it was tuned, yes I did maintenance(changed oil every 1500-2000). motors are junk, everything else is great imo
That sucks man. How many miles are on it?
No matter what you do to that engine, it seems like 425-450 is the limit. Everyone I know who has one has the same relationship with it.
have 90k on it as it sits right now, and yeah 425-450 is definitely beyond the limit with stock pistons, with forged pistons and some motor work you can definitely make more power than that but it still can be a little sketchy, imo if you wanna make crazy power like that an evo is a better platform, but then you run into drivetrain issues
my pistons after my first incident, when I was on stock turbo still too
http://oi42.tinypic.com/2j5anv8.jpg nonetheless I still love it, I worked my ass off to get it and got this when I was 19... mainly thanks to the club live/club bing thread posted here many many years ago
Spoiler: show
It followed me home here the other day, so I kept it!
Hello BG, I figured I would ask here instead of posting a new topic. I recently got a good paying job finally after graduating... and I am in the market for a new car. I at first wanted the BRZ, but I just feel like I can get more for the same price when it comes down to it, and the 23-25k is out of my price range... I think.
I live in New England so I am looking for a couple things.
1. I love tech stuff, I definitely have always wanted a display screen in my car that doesn't have to be touch, but makes the car look "rich/luxury".
2. It needs to be a all year round car; Snow, Rain etc.. so AWD is very nice, but not necessary.
3. Gas mileage isn't a huge problem, but I want around 25 highway at least
4. I am driving about 2 hours a day, so a comfortable ride
5. Sporty, something a 24 year old would drive, needs to have some giddup.
6. My price range is 10-20k, I can go more if it really blows me out of the water.
This is what I am looking at as we speak right now:
Audi A4: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...false&&aff=aol
Also BMW 3 series, or a Subaru WRX.
I'm just looking for ideas, suggestions, I don't want a high maintenance car, and I want one that small things can be done to it like tinting.......wheels....exhaust etc etc.
Throw me some ideas BG, I've always been in love with the Audi and BMW (Yeah I know), so show me the light as to what else is out there.
I recommend:
06-08 Trail Blazer SS
395 Horse
All Wheel Drive
Extremely Reliable
Buy an S2000 for 15k and get a 3-4K beater for the winter. I know of one for sale in NY that is in immaculate mechanical shape if you're interested. They can be found pretty easily though.
04-06 Pontiac GTO
One of the few great GM cars of that time.
04 is 350 Horse, 05+ is 400 Horse.
The most reliable engine on the market. (LS1 and LS2 respectively)
Background: I hate "German Taxis". Ie, 3 Series, A4, Etc. The performance models are a different story all together, but way out of your price range. The parts cost a fortune, they are STILL giant Electrical Rat's Nests. For every person that says they love their (newer) 3 Series, A4, etc. Ask them the mileage and if it's a lease or a purchase lol. Brand new they are great cars, but once you start putting the mileage on them, look out.
Edit:
IE. Tech/Screen -> You can put an aftermarket head unit with a screen in any car really. They aren't all that expensive either, so don't let the lack of a large screen in the dash deter you from anyone's suggestions.
RE WRX - If you aren't mechanically inclined or have a friend that is, do not buy a used WRX. 90% of them are beat to shit. Also, for everything the WRX does.... the EVO does it better. Period point blank. Same rules apply though, if you aren't comfortable mechanically inspected the vehicle yourself or paying for a mechanic to do so.... do not buy it lol.
The dealer I bought my WRX from had an Impreza they gussied up to make look sport. It may not have the "giddy-up" you were looking for, but it was pretty sporty-looking, AWD, and they're good on gas. Linky linky
You could probably build something similar, or find something similar used. Obviously this one doesn't have a display of any kind. Also, you may end up getting a better interest rate on a new car than a used one. Make sure you know what you're getting or speak to someone at your bank/a bank near you to find out what kind of rates they're offering.
Thank you for the info. I currently drive a SAAB so I'm well aware of the European crisis that is parts cost and such. I've replaced my turbo myself and I'm no stranger to mechanical fixes, but I want to avoid doing those, I don't enjoy them one bit. I haven't actually looked into an EVO, but like you mentioned, I've heard horror stories of people owning rally cars that physically destroy them, then trade them in after problems come to fruition. I don't mind sending extra for parts because of it being German, I have an amazing mechanic and he's very respectful with pricing with me.
If you go for a low end subaru don't get a stock impreza. It was a nice ride, but just made me want a WRX even more.
I'd recommend taking a subaru legacy for a spin, and see if you like it. Has a pretty good engine (although not turbo) but still has some nice pickup.
You could also look into a nissan altima.
