Blizzaks are great, but they are expensive. I switched over to Michelin X-IceII's 2 years ago and they are every bit as good as the Blizzaks.

They are a bit cheaper than the Blizzaks, but they won't be as cheap as something like a Cooper Tire. I don't skimp on tires personally. That is your connection to the road. Keep in mind that depending on where you live and your commute, a good set of snow tires can last 2-3 years easy.

I've been thinking about getting some snow tires to put on the forester. Winter roads in Utah are awful.

I was seriously contemplating the Blizzaks, but didn't want to spend the extra money yet. I just got the car in October and still have a few payments on the old lease left so I'm tighter on money. Since my family has used Cooper snows for as long as I can remember I usually go for the same thing. I guess I'll see how these ones do this season, but I'm sure I can get 2 years out of them at least.

Have you used a cheaper tire and noticed a significant difference? I've never used a more expensive one to compare.

Never bothered with cheap tires at all. I don't really feel that a $110 tire is expensive though. I think that's are what I paid for my X-Ice II's.

All of the reviews online will say the cheaper tires will lack in brake distance, comfort, road noise, and or dry traction. The X-Ices also give you a tread ware guarantee. That is not very common with snow tires.

The Altimax don't give me any additional road noise. I hit 90 yesterday to get around some asshole that kept speeding up when I tried to pass him and didn't get anything more than you'd expect with a more narrow, snow tire. I can't comment on the dry traction, but the brake distance is fine as well (another asshole ran a stop sign as I was about to go through the intersection, this time not at 90, but 30). That may change at higher speeds.

I had asked a WRX forum about what they had thought about the Blizzaks vs other, cheaper tires and got the same kind of reasoning. I guess it'll really be up to me trying out a more expensive tire when these ones wear down.

BG: What do you drive? (PICS)

I have blizzaks, and I don't mind the money I paid for them.

Going on my 4th season, and I do a shit ton of driving in the winter.

Update: Tire rack didn't seat the tires properly so the drivers front tire leaks slowly. Hooray...

On the plus side, the GF's parents' house had snow last week and they did their job well. No slipping on snow or ice.

Assuming you got it fixed already. But Tire Rack has a ton of certified installers all over the country. If there is/was one close buy they probably would have taken care of it for free once you bitched out Tire Rack lol.

I buy all my tires from them. Glad to see the tires are treating you well. I put my snow tires on the day before Thanksgiving. This will probably be the last year for this set.

Decided to finally get rid of the WRX. Repair bills piling up, tired of paying for 93 octane only and the high insurance finally got to me.

So I will be grabbing this either tomorrow, or saturday. 2013 dodge charger SXT

Take the racks off before they get covered in ice and salt this Thursday. You'll thank me when they aren't disgusting as shit and falling apart in a few years.

The carrier is very easy to take on and off too, which is a plus. Have the same one for my WRX.

I've been looking at the new WRX as a daily for when I boost the miata. It's getting phenomenal reviews in regards to handling, many going as far as to say it's the best driving WRX subaru has ever built (and they put the 6 speed in it!). Combining that with the fact the STI did not get any real update at all to the power plant..... I'm seriously considering the WRX.

I was looking at the Focus ST before the WRX. The WRX looks like a better car from every angle though.

Just traded my 2013 Scion FRS for a new Subaru Crosstrek.

I was an IDIOT for buying the Scion FRS. I am a single guy, who lives 10 hours away from family... but jesus. I couldn't fit my gym bag and work clothes in the FRS.
I got stuck 4 times in what I consider, light winter conditions. I am from New York, and now live in Cincinnati.

That shit looked pretty, but it was a disaster of a vehicle.
I traded her in for something more bulky and reliable. I'm getting older, going to lose my girl for some fat girl who does all my laundry and cooks my meals next.

PS. I love the Subaru. Most people said, "Oh, you won't have as much fun in the Crosstrek as you do in the FRS." -------- I've had the car for a week and have had a blast driving through shit.

Didn't change the oem tires out did ya? RWD and summer tires would drive even the most skilled driver insane. Surprised you had trouble with fitting a gym bag in there. I see guys show up to AutoX with a full second set of wheels/tires in the car lol. The Crosstrek has been getting some decent reviews. It was on the list when me and the wife were car shopping. It was literally BRAND new when we were looking though, and I did not want to buy in for the first model year. That's the only reason we ended up with the Rogue.
