So I've been thinking about adding some underdash lighting or something to my car. My gf's escape has red/blue subtle lighting in the door wells, door handles, and at your feet and I really like it. It isn't too bright, its easy on the eyes, etc. I was looking to do something similar under the dash but I was looking for something SUPER SUPER SIMPLE. My car is a lease, so I'd use ties and no drilling, but most of the ways want to use the 12v which I use for a phone charger. Any suggestions for any other easy set ups to do this? My car is white with black features, so I was looking to go with either white or blue light but a lot of the kits I find are way to bright for what I want.

Buy a dimmable set up. To wire them in, you need to tap into an existing circuit. Use a tap splice, or vampire splice, to accomplish this. When it comes close to lease turn in, just leave the tap splice on the OEM Wiring, and remove your leds. The OEM circuit will still function just as it did, no worse for the wear. You do not need to cut anything when you use a tap splice. Just crimp it over the existing wiring, and put your LED wiring on the other side of the splice.

Depending on when you want the lights to turn on, will tell you what circuit to tap into.

The dome light is common, but you will need to run the wire for the leds all the way from the footwell to the dome light. So you need to remove the A-pillar Plastic trim at minimum.

If you want the LEDS to turn on when you open the car door, then turn off again after it's closed... Look at your steering column where you stick the key in the ignition. You might have a little light right there that turns on when the door is open, then will turn off either once the door is closed or the key is in the ignition. I'd tap into that, as it's more than likely extremely easy to get to. On top of that the wiring will be really short.

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but interior trim removal is very easy. Just use the right tools and take your time. Tap splices are about as basic as you can get as well.

I'm used to removing interior trim with extrication tools, guess I'll have to be a little more gentle lol. Thanks for the tips, I haven't decided if I want them on full time or when the door is open, it really depends on how bright they are.

Now that I know how easy it is I might have to look into more color options. Not really sure what I'd want to use for White car with black interior. Blue Red Orange come to mind.

Look on ebay my friend. They have strips that you can change the color of lol. As long as the strip encompasses all the option you are considering... buy em up.

They sell kits in Advance/Autozone also. I was just over there for some spray glue for an interior project I'm working on. $35-$45 and there was 5-10 different kits there.

    Edit:

Here is every tool you will need to pull plastic trim pieces. They are made of very soft plastic, so they will not scratch your interior plastics. They also help to not put too much pressure on any trim pieces you are removing.... the tools will just bend if you apply to much force. All for the low price of $6:

Anyone here have a motorcycle? Warm weather around the corner and I have been lucky enough to take mine out a handful of times in preparation for the race season.

The shadow is mine. This was last weekend, only about 65 out but made a nice ride to the coast. I've taken it out a few times over the winter but only to the store and such.. just enough so it didn't sit in the garage for 4-5 months.

Thinking about giving this bike to my mother and buying a V Rod.

That looks like Oregon or Washington coast. I contemplated riding to Astoria on my Shadow but decided not to because It was 10 degrees cooler on the coast. I rode down Hwy 213 instead and ended up back in Lyons, OR where I grew up. I didn't have that destination in mind when I left, but I just kind of gravitated toward the roads that I knew. Fun ride.

Started on the re-upholstery for my car. Going to be all Alcantara Suede and Napa Leather when I'm done. Did the easy stuff last night, Shift Boot, Ebrake Boot, Arm Rest. I need to cut the OEM leather off the steering wheel and stitch the new Alcantara cover on. Hoping to do that this weekend. Then I need to order more fabric for the rest of the interior and the seats -_-

We had a couple 50-60 days and I was absolutely ecstatic. Still taking it slow on the turns because I haven't seen a sweeper out yet. But, the time is around the corner(Except for this random 30-40 days again, dammit east coast).

I have a Honda VTX1300. I've been able to ride it once this year, but then it got cold and rainy again. Looking for the next break in weather to take it out.

I don't have a good pic yet, so this is stolen from Google, but this is the wife's new car. Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid.

    Optima looking real dece, congrats~

Dunno about that front plate though.. but I'm one of the few who says fuck you to the 2-plate states. Blame KS. I've lived in several 2-plate states, and I keep a pristine front bumper free of holes and a bracket if at all possible. But I imagine that bumper was already drilled up at the dealership.

I hate front plates. I will not put one on my car lol, and NY still "requires" it.

I got hassled once and got a ticket, zip tied the plate to the grill, showed up to court and the ticket was dismissed completely. That was 2 years ago, not a single problem since then.

What year is the Optima? Brand new one? I'd trying to find a picture of that pleated interior I saw in the commercials. I've only found stock photos and shit.... no pictures from an owner.

Quixon, lemme just say I like your style re: front plates. Wut@SKEEEET plate though

Edit: I've had several cop acknowledgements that there is little utility to the front plate anyway. States need to cut some manufacture of this future rubble in half.

If you roll around through TX with a 1-state OK plate, you're still gonna get caught you do some shit, and they'll know who the eff you be and all. And camera'd intersections or toll ramps would have sufficient view and pics of your rear plates.

My plate has a wagon because of dysentery nostalgia,

Thanks. 45 minutes suspension lift ended up taking 10 hours this weekend -_-. My car was too low for the tire place to get it on the lift, so the plan was to raise it 3 inches and then go ahead and have the new tires mounted. Yeah all the Coilover Collars were seized up. So instead of a simple adjustment we had to disassemble the suspension, remove the coilovers.... put them in a vice, and crank on them with a breaker bar.

And my wife wonders why every time I do car shit, it takes twice/three times as long as it's supposed to hahaha.

Little ongoing joke with a few of my friends. We had one of those pop up 4 post tents you typically see vendors use at outside trade shows set up behind my car. And a bunch of friends of mine were hanging out there at a large outdoor car show.

This black dude that actually looked kind of like Little Jon was checking all the cars out. He walked in front of mine and just turned to his buddy and said "AWW SKEET SKEET, Now this I like."

So every time I pull up to ANYWHERE in my car.... that's the welcome I get when friends are present lol.
