I like the FRS, I like the IS300 also lol. Must be a big difference in handling feel moving to a car so much lighter.

Rear Wheel Drive is the way to go.

The IS was a bit of a let-down honestly. I wanted more power but it handled great. It wasn't competitive for something like AX though. The FR-S is far superior for what I want (AX and backroads car). I believe it is an over car in stock and whatever street class it is in right now.

I sometimes assume that people know the same things that I do, but to clarify the term "sports car" has a pretty definite meaning. Most people use it incorrectly when they just mean "sporty car". For example, a Miata is a sports car (not a coupe though).

Apparently, the Corvette is still considered a sports car, but I think it is getting too far into the way too much power and is probably getting close to the supercar category when it comes to power and driving.

Miata is a 2 seater RWD.

You have the Camaro, Mustang, Piece of shit Genesis.... Can't remember more off the top of my head. M3 or is that AWD now?

Edit: Cayman and basically every other Porsche made as well. (Boxster, 911, etc.)

    Edit again: 370z also lol.

AutoX wise you should have a lot of fun, and assuming you can drive you should do pretty well. In my region it's all Miatas, S2000's, and FRS/BRZ's at the top of the boards every week.

If you put a turbo/supercharger on it, you'll be competing with Corvettes and won't do nearly as well lol.

Miata is not a coupe. Camaro, Mustang, Genesis, etc, are all generally far to large to be considered sports cars.

They are sporty cars, or muscle cars, or whatever.

Here this may help the discussion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car

The FR-S might actually be considered a GT car (grand tourer) but now I feel like I am getting into obscure minutiae. Actually, those other cars are probably more close to GT cars than sports cars. The FR-S is definitely closer to sports car than them.

When I had my Celica I did decently in STS in a kind of stacked region. The problem is that I am not going to put this car into STS and stock now allows for new shocks which I don't really feel like dealing with. This car is staying stock except for winter tires. LOL Fuck the turbo/supercharger cost and explosive potential. LOL

This is how I typically break it down myself:

Sports Car = small, lightweight, nimble, emphasis on pure handling (Miata, RX-7, RX-8, FRS, Cayman, Boxster, etc)

Pony Car = small-to-midsize, V8 power (usually a small one), with a focus on balance between power and handling (Mustang GT, Trans Am WS6, AAR Cuda, AMX)

Muscle Car = mid-to-fullsize, huge V8, focus on outright speed (Challenger SRT8, Hemi Roadrunner, Hemi Charger)

GT = Sports car with a big engine (Corvette, Aston, etc)

It's open to interpretation though depending on the part of the country you come from, and your generation. A lot of the old school car guys only consider 2 seaters to be sports cars for instance.

    Edit:

Shocks aren't to much worse than changing brake pads and rotors. And you'll be doing that frequently if you are AutoX'ing the car. The majority of the time is still putting the car up on jack stands lol. When I installed my coilovers it took me about an hour per corner. Take off 15-20 minutes per corner since I was smoking a massive blunt at the time. And yeah you always have the potential to break something adding more HP. My buddy has the Innovate Superchager on his BRZ.

It depends on what weight you want to consider "heavy" FR-s is roughly 2800lbs, a v6 mustang is 3400-3500lbs

I generally agree with most of that, I would probably put the RX-7 in GT but its all interpretation really (though there are people that has spent years defining this stuff).

That is a huge difference when it comes to curb weight.

Obviously, but would you put a v6 into the category of a "muscle" car? Probably not

It's all real personal opinion on what a person considers a sports car. I was going primarily from an insurance point of view.

Defacto is 3,000lbs. The lighter the better, but anything over 3K is considered Heavy in the performance car market.

Edit: I've seen a lot of people use the "Insurance" Designation as well. Not necessarily the most common, but I have seen it.

The entire "sportscar" and hell even the "coupe" designation is all jumbled up now a days. BMW has a 4 door they call a Coupe for crying out loud -_-

Edit: Personally "V6" in any american muscle car goes into the category of shit lol.

Except that it is not really personal opinion. A sports car (sportscar) is a small, usually two seat, two door automobile designed for spirited performance and nimble handling.[2] Sports cars may be spartan or luxurious but high maneuverability and minimum weight are requisite.[3]

You can call it whatever you want, but that doesn't make your opinion correct.

Pretty sure they have said that the convertible is coming in 2016. But they say shit like that all the time. Apparently it was designed with a convertible in mind at some point depending on sales.

I guess my insurance company is wrong then, I should call them up and tell them the Wiki doesn't classify my car as a true "sports car" and they are overcharging me.
