Just signed a lease for a new Tacoma. 2024 TRD Offroad in basically the same spec we have right now. $450 a month all-in after tax. Not bad for a 51k MSRP truck, 9.3% off with another $1K in loyalty. We're picking it up next week after we give our current Taco one more weekend in Vermont climbing hills. I'll post pics after we pick up.

eh, it's the end of the model year. They were impossible to find for about 8 months when the new build came out.

Oh, I thought this was the startingly overpriced new model. So this is just the end run of the old model. That also explains it, they want new models (they def aren't gonna sell) on the lot.

And they probably need to fill space and get bodies on lots considering they still haven't started producing their bread and butter Highlanders again since their curtain airbags began falling out of windows. My mom (works at the factory) said they're looking at a very slow ramp up to begin production at end of month, may not run full production until the new year. May not see them back on lots for like 4 or 5 months.

I read that as well but it does seem like a pretty small subset of owners. If it breaks, I'll get a dank boy racer loaner. I'm not too worried, I whooped on my current lease driving on the beach and its a champ.

thing is fucking awesome. the 4 banger + turbo has some giddyup. it feels much... tighter? it's definitely quieter and rides quite nicely.

So, here in California, come January 1st, the Driving Clean Assistance Program (DCAP) is going to open to "South Coast Air Quality District" residents a $7500 EV rebate + $2000 EV charging card for households under 300% of the federal poverty line. The federal $7500 EV rebate is still in effect, at least until the Republicans likely kill it in their first budget bill.

Long story short, I can probably get $15000 off a new EV in the next month. To accomplish this we'd likely sell my wife's 2017 Golf Sportwagen for ~$16000.

EV has to be purchased under $45k, and sold by a DCAP authorized dealer - so no Teslas.

Wife is most interested in a VW iD4, and the 2024 version has the updated infotainment (the biggest issue with the old iD4s) in the Pro trim so that's what I've been looking at. After tax/title/etc, an ID4 Pro would be ~44k, or 29k after 15k in rebates.

If I don't strike now, it's entirely possible I'll never qualify for the state rebate again and the fed rebate is probably gone for good.

Should we spend ~13k to upgrade?

Got a Mach-E for Christmas, and I’m absolutely loving it so far! That said, I’m the kind of person who drives cars into the ground—my last car was a 2012 model with 300,000 miles on it—so just about any modern vehicle would probably feel impressive to me. I recently tried BlueCruise (self-driving mode) for the first time during my one-hour commute, and it was amazing. Surprisingly, I found I didn’t feel the urge to speed when I wasn’t actively controlling the car or its speed.

Depending on what car you would get, it seems like a reasonable price to upgrade your gas secondary compact to an EV secondary compact, especially one coming up relatively fast on the decade mark.

It's gonna be more like $300 for 13k for 5 years if they are willing to selling the other car first and put a large down payment.

Or depending how he plays the signing IR vs. what happens with Trump's economy, he could come out ahead on the interest by putting the sum for the other car in a HYS or CD.

I'd likely just finance it for a couple months til the Sportwagen sold and then pay the loan off, unless I weirdly got a really low rate (unlikely). I've never carried a car payment in my life.

I think he intends to pay a big down payment out of savings, enough so that selling the other car lets him pay it off.
