Edit: I don't really care if people summoner burn, or think leveling to 75 "the real way" is the best way to do it. I just find it funny that anyone who thinks the guy is dumb or are generally unimpressed by this are jealous in some way. It's not like it hasn't been done before and its not like summonering burning is some big secret.
Thank you, found the words I couldn't.

Exactly, I don't like the idea of quickly getting to the highest level.

Exactly. Now imagine you started playing a few months ago. Or what if you were one of those "casual" people that doesn't put in more than 5-10 hours a week. Regardless of the situation, goals/accomplishments are personal and not everyone shares your views.

Look, I realize your point and I share the same personal point of view, however, you are naive and/or just trying to be a condescending prick by saying that it isn't an accomplishment to anyone.

I view tackling AV as an accomplishment but there are others out there who definitely think otherwise. Who is right? No one, it's all opinion.

Believe it or not, there are people that play this game that could honestly care less.

Several people in the FFXIAH AV thread appear to be of that opinion.

Personally I hate EXPing, would happily Abyssea/AFburn any more jobs I decide to level (whether to 66 or 80+) because I got tired of that grind a long, long time ago.

There's a difference between not caring, and not thinking it's an accomplishment. Killing an unkillable mob is an accomplishment, end of story.

Eh, kinda. In the big picture, caring is really what makes it an accomplishment. If I went to my folks and told them about how my LS beat the big bad unkillable video game monster they would definitely not view it as an accomplishment.

While I realize this entire forum is dedicated to FFXI and everyone reading these forums does care about the game in some way, viewing the attainment of level 75 is of the same line of thought. Some people care about it a lot more than others and will view it as an accomplishment and some people won't.

Only because they have absolutely no idea how hard it is, or how few people have done it.

No probably because they could care less about a video game anyways. Let alone if I told them how many hours I had specifically spent either trying to defeat or formulating strategies for the defeat of that mob over the years. Not only would they view it as not an accomplishment but also a waste of time.

Who is right? No one. It's an opinion and that's the basis of my argument. Something that is an accomplishment to one person isn't necessarily an accomplishment to another.

Although opposition to SMN burn often argue that challenges towards XPing are necessary, for the sake of cognitive consistency, they're more likely saying so because of tradition. If the issue were about difficulty, they would drag their PT to moon. Either that or lie and say moon now has Colibri.

People who think leveling a job (the right way) is some sort of accomplishment are generally the people who don't actually accomplish anything of substance in this game.

And the Gameshark analogy is off by miles. Most of the tasks in any game a Gameshark could help you with keeled over long before you capped your proficiency/level legitimately or otherwise. Gaining experience was virtually the only angle those games had. When AB or leeching Abyssea parties makes AV, PW, or what have you fall over and hand you their drops regardless of how terrible you might be, get back to me.

The first one is a blanket statement. The second is fine, until the last part.

Endgame drops, or things like that, aren't the topic here really. It's more that the person in the video I posted, Astral Burned to 75 BLM, and most likely RDM too (He used a scroll of Gravity), achievement isn't measured by how you level, that's an unfair judgment. It's about how hard to try, and most people who level to high levels (Not talking about merits or subs) with Astral Burn, aren't willing to work very hard.

This. How can someone even compare a Gameshark to AB or Abyssea pts or w/e.

But I was never a fan of comparing cheating in an offline game to cheating in an online one. Not that I believe AB is cheating, though.

Not sure I follow, using a gameshark for levels in almost any FF game would make you breeze through a majority of the content, some (such as endgame fights, FF7 weapons come to mind) you need more than lvl 99 to beat them. Same could be said for FFXI, using AB to get to the highest level (80) would allow you to solo a good majority of the games content or duo. Zilart missions + COP missions + good list of things would be easy to do at highest level.

Besides it was meant to show how some people like to level, some like to take the time to level the normal way, others like to skip through to the highest level so they can get to do the other stuff faster (which they did with gameshark jumping to highest level).

I compared it because its basically the same thing... you used a gameshark to get from 1 to highest level to skip the leveling process to just do whatever else the game had, same with people doing AB's... you skip the leveling process normally to just sit and get the highest level to do whatever you would at the highest level. Jesus are people thinking too deep into it?

You can't compare an offline RPG to FFXI though. In a normal RPG you levelup while doing the story and shit. Offline RPGs don't have "endgame" content per se.

There really isn't comparing beating up a million birds to exploring a world meeting lame characters and solving problems and shit.

Er? A lot of offline RPGs had endgame content, there were a lot of hard bosses and dungeons that almost required you to be a higher level or have good equips/magic/etc. Not really a huge stretch of a comparison like you few are making it out to be.
