BST + New Pets Much Stronger!!

Has to do with windower re-writing everything as /ma and spiral spin is a blu spell, so it gives an error.

I was having issues with half the Jug abilities as well. That sucks if it's the reason. Is there anyway to work around it?

Seems like typing the jug pet abilities out manually works (ie: /pet "Spiral Spin" <me> ). Which is ok for me since I'll have them set to my G-Keys. Just won't be able to do certain ones from the Ready menu.

having Thieves steal them is the WORST of the options for getting lesser chigoe.
To be explicit: I was charming karakul vs karakul while we stole and killed chigoe. We also waited till it was weak to try to steal. We were never able to steal anything. 5 minute recast is a pain also.

I tried w/ a level 75 thief and I (BST/THF) trying for 1.5 hours to get one. Didn't get a single one.

My chocobo digging attempt yielded nothing. Maybe I need better skills, or someone cleaned out he zone... or I don't know. I'll try this more.

I was able to harvest a couple. Watch out for chigoe Aggro in South Gustaberg, they come in Groups. but yeah, 50k for a stack sounds fine to me. This is a pain to harvest. Wish they added it as a drop to some mob or something.

Couldn't you also drag the sheep to the nashmau zone and just have the THF run in and out, changing SJ to reset steal timer.

I'd say you are better off farming gil in whatever method works best for you. Then hit the AH.

It's worth it for the group if you're getting together to make it so that you can bring a bst instead of a thf to events where it would be more useful.

As more and more people realize this, the pets are going to get harder and harder to find. Most servers get 1-2 stacks of chigoe every couple days.

Now that I'm over my shock at seeing a BST thread on BG, I'd like to start a conversation about gear. When the level cap was raised I found myself xping on a lot of tigers (in La Vaule, and Bea[tab] S. Mischarms were a bitch, so I started re-evaluating my gear.

I used to use a hybrid of CHR and +Charm, and it served me well. But with the advent of awesome new jug pets, I can't really think of any situation where I'd want to prolong charm duration anymore. Not for xp, not on NMs, not even for farming since some of the jugs (hi2u sheep) are so cheap. So max CHR it is.

I went to gear sets on FFXIAH, and started to cry. Some are great, many are good, but most are inexplicable. I will admit that playing BST is mostly about skill, and the BST community has a notion that skill > gear, but this is BG and the parse doesn't lie. I figured I'd come here to determine what is the absolute best CHR gear, alongside a "good enough" set for people without gil/time/HNMLS.

Here is what I have so far, please fix:

Weapon: Apollo's Staff (Charm success +15%, +2 CHR)/Light staff
Grip: Reign Grip (+3 CHR)/Bugard Strap (+1)
Ammo: Tsar's Egg (+4)/Imperial Egg (+3) <-- these are hard to find, any substitutions?
Head: Maat's Cap (+7)/Monster Helm +1 (+5) <-- is there a cheap/easy alt?
Neck: Temperance Torque (+5)/Bird Whistle cheapest, others (+3)
Ears: Epsilon Earring (+3) and Melody Earring +1 or Delta Earring (+2)/Melody Earrings (+1)
Body: Kirin's Osode (+10)/Bison Jacket (+4) <-- there are silly options here like Avalon Breastplate (+7) and Skadi's Cuirie (+8), but Bison is 20k on my server and probably the best cheap alt
Hands: Beast Gloves +1 (+5)/Trainer's Gloves (+5)
Rings Veela Ring (+6) and Apollo's Ring, others (+6)/Angel's Ring (+4)
Back: Ferine Mantle (+4)/Lyricist's Gonnelle (+3)
Waist: Aristo Belt (+8)/Monster Belt (+6) or Corsette +1 (+6)
Legs: Beast Trousers +1 (+6)/Beast Trousers (+4) <-- leaving out Luna Subligar, which gives +7 at full moon
Feet: Volunteer's Nails (+5) or Beast Gaiters (+1)/Dance Shoes (+3) <-- HQ are +4, but not cheap

So by my count, max possible from gear is +76 (+77 at full moon). Does that look right?

Why are we talking about BSTs replacing THFs again? THFs have TH4, if you really want TH, you'll bring a THF not a BST. I don't think Dipper Yuly's TH trait is going to be worth an LS banding together to get him ingredients so they can have him BST at an event, instead of a THF with TH4.

It's more of an extra bonus for BST, than something to rely on to get your drops. A melee/THF can accomplish the same goal of extra damage + TH, if that's what you're after.

There's the CHR belt from the pixie in Abyssea - Aristo Belt which seems to be running at about 50k on Quetzanotmigard. Your gear's above mine anyway though (I'm only riding on Angels Rings NQs, and I've never really swapped ammo since then I end up hitting call beast about to die and wondering why Carrie's deserted me) - find it's better not to check other BSTs much since it can make you sit and sob with WTFness (the guy rolling in trying to charm those tigers with a nice trainwreck of CHR gear and acc stuff and an NQ light staff was going to have a fun time). They're definitely full on CHR over Charm+ jobs though.

Essentially though those Glacier tigers in particular are a bitch - we found duoing them much safer in that one of us could "hold" a mischarmed tiger still with our own pet until we had both charmed - then a pair of tigers could take out a good few gigas (watching charm duration of course). Doesn't help the level of them on the Wiki was originally wrong - another BST's corrected it - they still check with the odd T mixed in up until you ding 79. Awesome exp with rings on - but the closest I've come to rage quitting BST getting through the Glacier camp which we rode all the way to 80.

Didn't have that much problems with La Vaule tigers once dinged 76, but the Glacier ones can be brutal (yet it still makes me cry all these guys who think they have to jug it up to get 75-80)

Ferine Mantle (DEX+4 CHR+4 Accuracy+7 Pet: Accuracy+10)
Mantle is the JSE Piece for BST and drops of a Rafflesia NM in Abyssea i think ... so most likely not soloable, might need a LS or a reliable low man group.

Also there is the new CHR+6 Ring (Apollo's?) on AH, so might wanna pair this with Veela.

I personally love the Caedarva camp, right outside the staging point. Either in duo from 76+ using jug pets on imps (use Couerl for the silence Sic) or solo at 78 charming flies v imps. Of course it gets crazy when it's crowded, but there are times when it's empty and you can chain solo with ease.

I keep hearing good things about imps in Xarc S, but haven't checked it out yet. Have you tried that Cesaria? I'm sitting at 79 now and thinking about new camps.

Oh and I didn't mean to insinuate that that is my gear in my first post lol. I'm missing the ammo, temp torque, nails, and the +6 ring, I think. My set is something like +65 CHR. I found tigers in La Vaule more tolerable if used Tuna Sushi.

Haven't looked through the thread but anyone realize that the new rabbit jug is level is way to high? Was getting 103-150 xp chaining imps with it but when i changed to Sheep got 200+ a kill @_@!

We found Xarc had the same problem most of WOTG seems to - nice pets, but miles away from nice things to throw them at - we just caned exp rings like a crack addict to get from 79-80 in Glacier.

The bunny EXP issue's been mentioned on Alla quite a lot (the BST forum does seem to be one bastion of non-idiocy on there at least)

In my particular case, I run with a low man group, and our thf options are severely limited. However, we have a bst that's pretty much available 100% of the time.

The perks for BST really do feel like an unexpected pleasant surprise from SE. Like finding ten bucks in your jeans, or your boss calling in sick.

When I get around to it (ie quit working 12 hour days), I'd like to start putting together other ideal sets for BST, with the goal of making a good spellcast file. Off the top of my head, I can think of:

Idle (mischarm)
TP
WS (Rampage, Primal Rend)
Reward
Idle (pet buffs like atk + acc and -pdt)

and others I can't think of right now.

This is my set. Some of this is good, some of this blows, some of this will probably land me in the gimp thread. Like with the charm set, I'd like to pick an "ideal" set to go along with a "good enough" set.

For the record, I don't do any endgame and I do very little partying with my BST. So don't laugh at my gear. I'm fragile. Plus my only other career job is BLM, so I'm a melee idiot.

Weapons: Another discussion for another time, but I mainhand Maneater and usually offhand a trial axe

Ammo: Tiphia Sting
Head: Walahra Turban
Neck: Peacock Charm (Temperance Torque is better here)
Earrings: Brutal and Assault (right? good enough seems like NQ attack earrings)
Body:Haubergeon +1 (Adaman Hauberk is better here, but what is second?)
Hands: NQ Dusk (+1 still best? Looks like Perle are a good alternative. Are they better than NQ Dusk?)
Rings: NQ Sniper's and Rajas (Mars is best for one but lol, what is best other?)
Back: Forager's (Cerb +1 still best? NQ Amemet for good enough set?)
Waist: Swift (Ninurta's best but again lol, then Speed, then Swift for good enough, right?)
Legs: Byakko's (Perle seem like 2nd, and cheap enough for good enough?)
Feet: Aurum (again, Perle 2nd?)

This is pure TP build. There are obviously some gear choices, particularly the add-on augment types, that have nice pet bonuses. But I'm thinking of a straight TP gain set here.
