The fact that there's also a titty bar at every corner doesn't really help either.

Let's face it, the majority of the country is overzealous, religious nuts. By the way, I will strongly suggest that you act like a social believer (like a social smoker) when you start professional career, otherwise your work may take a toll.

Lived in the dead center of the Triangle for a year, wandered out to the Blue Ridge one beautiful day with a friend, and we stopped in Asheville.

There was some bupkis little parade on in town, and much to my surprise one of the locals lit up a joint not 20 feet away from me, and not any further away from a cop, who either didn't notice or didn't care.

That was a first for me in NC.

The scariest part was the great expanse of nothing once you get west of Durham, when civilization as we know it pretty much just stops.

I was born in NC. That being said, I still prefer living in the northwest. Plan on getting an A-Frame log cabin somewhere in Washington's mountains eventually, that would be my goal. That or a small castle. Its a hard choice, man. Just a small one, built on the side of a mountain overlooking a lake... but I digress.

I usually don't have to worry about religious arguments anymore though. People like that discussed above rarely make it past my job to talk about my lack of belief. At which point I enjoy tearing down their little self-created delusions of science. I remember growing up though, my parents and the friends of the family would try to force me to go to church to get me to change my mind about religion. 'Cause that totally helped. I read your book, I didn't find it that awe inspiring or life changing.

Silly man, the first thing i do when I wake up is put on my anti-gay chastity belt, because lets face it - you never know when one is going to pop out from their hiding place and attempt to take you

    This this this this.

Seriously, all you have to do to be convinced that Christianity is no more respectable than looking at polaroid pictures of an attic with a 5000x flash and saying that the pieces of dust on the picture are ghosts is to read the Bible. The shit in there is so contradictory and ass-backwards that I've still yet to meet a single person who, by the standards set in the Bible, isn't going to hell.

Then again, only about 5% of the people I've ever discussed religion with have read the Bible, instead of, you know, just "knowing" that god loves our country and hates gays.
