where the s2 and n1 have all the menu buttons already on the screen so I'm hitting them with my cheek.

Sorry for the short reply but I'm writing a paper at the moment.

These phones should have the sensor for when you put the phone up to your face, the change in light turns the screen off so that you don't press anything with your cheek until you pull it away. I don't know if its possible to turn this option off, but you might want to check the settings to make sure it is in fact on and working. My S3 has the sensor near the earpiece, and I know a few generations of phones including older iphones also have this feature so I wouldn't see why yours don't. My sister has the Galaxy Nexus and I believe hers also has the feature.

I mean, it is SUPER sensitive and she could get it to turn the screen off before it even went to her ear.

Sorry for blur, trying to do a lot at once. There may be an issue with the sensor if its not picking it up, and afaik this is the easiest way to solve the problem since its a stock feature.

Are you a lefty? The proximity sensors normally are designed for right handed people. Left handed people, like me, can sometimes have a big issue with the proximity sensors not working well.

Got a new android today (defy xt). My old android had an app that would check a site and when it got updated, it would vibrate and also show a notification.

My new phone only does that when I turn on the screen/unlock. Is there some setting I have to change to make it work even if the phone is in my pocket, for example? I am not good with android.

Got a new android today (defy xt). My old android had an app that would check a site and when it got updated, it would vibrate and also show a notification.

My new phone only does that when I turn on the screen/unlock. Is there some setting I have to change to make it work even if the phone is in my pocket, for example? I am not good with android.

I no this is some time back. But ill look into this. What phone do you have? I hope there is a simple setting, I hate telling people to use an event program. Its crazy what it can do but requires root and can be not so user friendly.

I'm looking to find a good gba emulator. The free versions of the 5$ ones are kinda crap, would rather not pay for it. My SG3 is rooted and no issue downloading paid apps.

Speaking of which, when I had an iphone I found it easy peasy to download apps with Installous and what not, but its suprisingly difficult to find reputable and comprehensive download sites for apks (PM, or creative google searches would be appreciated if it can't be posted).

On the emulator note, I'm assuming there's no way to tell if an apk from outside of the Play store is 'safe' prior to installing?

I'm also assuming Dropbox is one of the better means of transferring shit to/fro a PC.

Trying to root my wife's Kindle Fire 2 (10.2.4). Tried using the QEMU tool with local.prop method. Won't work. Won't work for shit. Anyone have any idea on how to make this happen. It's frustrating the fuck out of me and validating my reasons for never buying an android phone.

Get an iPad? Jailbreak is easy as hell. It is no root. Or do some xda reading. Kind fire is not really a prime example of android but hay, do what you want.

I have an iPad. And it's jailbroken. Jailbroken in about 5 minutes flat. The hoops you jump through to root is absurd. I probably should have gotten a Nexus 7, but too late for that now.

Hate to be postin' again so soon, but Google not coming up with a solid answer. Is there a means of backing up apps without rooting the device? Going to get this Nexus exchanged, and I'd really prefer not to have to redownload 6gb of apps.

Only if already side loaded. All apps from the store are in your app folder in root file.

Theoretically you could push temp root from Android terminal to allow read write. Outside that I can't think of a way.

But it your doing temp root might as well go full on root


Edit: you would then need temp root to reinstall unless you extract the apk file itself.
