Ok so, installed some apps. Is there anyway to like, get updates for these that I installed, like trick the market or w/e into thinking that I bought it, or will I just have to download the newer apk's?

You will have to Re DL new apks if the update is something you want. with that being said same goes if you flash your android you will also need to put the APKs back on.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here but, a way to get a 3G hotspot on the Incredible without paying Verizon fees. (Phone does NOT need to be rooted to do this!)

1) Dial ##778
2) Choose edit mode
3) Enter 000000 when prompted for passcode
4) go to security > SIP DUN user name. Change to [email protected] (don't change if it's slightly different... just remove the "dun" from the address)
5) go to MIP default profile > DUN NAI and change to [email protected] (again, don't change anything if it's different. just remove "dun" from the address)
6) hit menu and "commit changes"

Phone will reboot, you should now be able to use the 3g hotspot and bypass the proxy that requires you to login. I confirmed this is working on 2.2 release with a non-rooted incredible. As for the obvious "will Verizon change me for this?" question... I don't know. I don't see how they'd detect it, and from what I read on forums no one's been charged yet. But as always, try at your own risk.

I heard as far as mobile hot spots go, they will only notice if you use a lot of wifi per month, then they will start charging you.

Edit: and I have a question, how do I set shit as my text tone? It only gives me a pre-made list to choose from, and I want to make the 1-up noise m text ringer D:

Its always been rumored for years on every carrier........... but with multiple streaming apps, (netflix on the iphone comes to mind, or justin.tv) even if you use a ton of bandwith you do have a valid arguement.

Like someone works overnights 6 days a week, in a car alone. Could just say he/she watches movies or streams shit 8 hours a day 6 days a week.

Going off how my Evo works, look for a folder on your SD card called "media". User ringtones and notifications are stored there.

yea i got that update and since then my tether programs all when to shit, barnicle wifi tether and any wireless tether isnt working for me, is there a fix for that yet?

Aight so I'm having a problem with tethering, which I noticed from the begining but didn't worry too much about it. So when I tether, it's fine at first. Getting a fantastic 300kb/s Down, but after like 10~15 mins it pretty much shtu downs completely to .08kb/s, and doesn't raise back up ever again. My phone's 3G is fine, and I downloaded 10mb worth of updates while tethered and they DLd fine and fast. I thought it was the app I was using (was using "Wireless Tether"), but when I downloaded a new one (Barnacle tether) it still had to same issue. Note, i'm keeping the phone from going into standby the entire time, so it's not from data time-out from the battery mode or anything like that. Halp. I need to use skype and my school won't let me so I wanted to tether my phone.

Unrelated, but overclocked/undervolted my DX, running @1.1ghz, 34vsel, 2.1 android.

noticed the same thing on my first gen droid tethering in chicago when I couldn't find open wifi, seems like they throttle your bandwith if they notice you blazing away for an extended period of time

I was thinking that, but some other people apparently ran into the same problem, while others it was fine. It was weird, I uninstalled and reinstalled Wireless Tether and then when I tethered that shit shot up to 1500kb/s, I was impressed since most of the time it was @100~300kb/s, then after 10 minutes it reverted back to it's <1.0kb/s shit.

Edit: atm I just loaded it up, between 1.5~2mb/s, we'll see how long this lasts... settling down at 1mb/s now.

Edit 2: now it's being weird as shit, I try loading another youtube video, shot up to 500kb/s, then up to 1.5then 2.1, then suddenly dropped back to <1kbps, trying to load another video and now it's 60~ kbps. Stopped it now,getting server time outs.

If you are talking about Quadrant, it's a benchmark test that measures the performance of your phone. the Droid x normally shows up somewhere in between "Moto Droid X" and "Nexus One 2.2+", with froyo it bumps it up to 1.4k~ or so (without JIT).

Does anybody have experience getting OS updates while using a cross-network phone (e.g. T-Mobile on AT&T)? Where is the update actually coming from, because as I understand it, your provider wouldn't actually know what kind of phone you have if they don't have its IMEI. Are they still able to identify it somehow and get you the update?
