1. How to install apps direct to SD card, didn't do it on my G1 and it severely limited the capacity and ability of my phone.
2. Black Market of sorts, like a way to get paid apps for free, mostly done online or something you can do through rooting?
Check the previous page, post by anti, application called applanet. To install apps to your SD card... just download the .apk files from the internet and put them there, then once on your SD card, navigate to the file on your phone and just click it and it will install. You may get a prompt that you need to check the button to allow apps that weren't downloaded on the market.
Blur-less Droid X rom: http://forum.droid-life.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=991
Just installed like an hour ago and fiddling with it now.... holy hell it runs smooth. Good UI, some nice customization abilities. Debating if I want to put a theme over it or not. Very quick to install, clear instructions. I actually downloaded the .zip onto my phone instead of putting on my pc then copying it to my phone. I really recommend it to everyone.
Blur is pretty much the motorola UI (HTC has it's own, Motorola has it's own etc) that pretty much everyone hates. It causes the phone to slow and the blur apps are rather bad and take up a lot of memory, as I understand it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motoblur
You need to root, and you need to install droid x bootstrapper, which can be found: http://code.google.com/p/xdroidx/dow...abel%3ADroid+X
Honestly, there's no point in not rooting. Unrooting is simple if you have to bring it back to the manufacturer for some reason. The details are all there... pretty much you download the zip, run bootstrap app, format what it says to format, install the rom, restart and then BAM.
Need to root my phone still though, isn't there some sort of chip that locks ure phone if you try though?
It's been largely a non-issue for everything. I've fucked up my phone... 4-5 times now. They have ways around it, you just "flash" your phone. Sure you have to go back to stock and reactivate the phone (which is just an automated phone call away), but it really just doesn't matter. The only issue would be like if you cracked your screen which... why would they look at the files anyways?
Where do I put the bootstrap app, gonna try and root my phone
Root of your SD card, then go into your phone apps and run the apk and it will install. To root... uh... look it up I forgot how I did it.
Added u in MSN, or go on AIM, got some questions
I imagine you've probably gotten it figured out by now, but I had the same issue. I thought it was hanging up, but it was really just taking an inordinate amount of time to finish. After my second or third attempt, I ended up taking a shower and making lunch while the cmd window was open and running, and it had finished by the time I got back.
Not sure how many there are, but for any Captivate users, Froyo was leaked today on XDA. Looks to be a release build, and people are mentioning it fixing GPS as well. Going to flash as soon as I get it downloaded.
so my family plan is about to change to Sprint... I am very sad that I now have to drop my Moto Droid, however it can not be helped at this point. Lucky ass GF of mine is getting my droid >.> anyways...
So I need to find a new phone.... Its down to the Epic or the EVO
I want custom roms(but this wont happen I no)
I need root as a ton of my apps need root
I really do like the slide out keyboard >.<
WiFi Tether(free so ya root)
The Epic looks really good because of the keyboard, but I do not no if it has root and that is a big turn off, if it is true.
Any insight from people who no more about them would be great.
Um, it does have root, and we just recently got a perfect working recovery, so custom roms have been popping up. The guy that did the custom recovery thing working, is currently working with some other people to get CM ported over.
Both phones are good, Evo development is currently a lot farther, since it's been out longer, but the Epic is getting there. I would say just go with the phone you want. Neither phone will disappoint you.
I'm on CM6 and i'm ready to go back to sense again. Fucking swype seems to not work with CM6 on Evo... is anyone else having this issue or found a workaround? I've been searching and trying every swype apk i've come across. no luck
