That new nexus sounds nice and all, but i doubt it's coming to sprint since it's talking about LTE, So i'll be happy with my Evo 3D for awhile.

and with all these android phones, it's getting harder to recommend one to people, my friend has the Galaxy S(Fascinate.. whatever Tmobile has) We went looking at phones for him yesterday because he said his was acting up, but the only difference between when that came out and now is dual cores, and 4g speed.. that's not enough for "casuals" who dont really care about phones. He went from a HTC Wing(which he held up until like last fall) to the fascinate, none of the phones are a big enough leap for casuals unless you care about being on the bleeding edge

I will say that 4G speed is NICE. I recently got Verizon's 4Glte service in my area and my HTC Thunderbolt jumped to 25Mbps down and about 8-13 Mbps up.

If you don't wanna get into flashing a custom rom, this is how you format the phone (or restore to factory settings).

Also, CM7 is nice for the phone. I recommend running winner00's build from the site linked above. If you decide to go this way, I recommend rooting > downloading Rom Manager from market and flashing CWM using that. Then install any ROM you want. I can help you with this later tonight if you want.

I'm most likely going to look into doing this on Sat or Sun so just in case I mess my phone up I'll have plenty of time to go pick up a new one. Thanks for the response guys.

For those that don't know: MIUI is another big Android mod. Fairly certain its based off of CM or AOSP. One of the two.

Anyways its designed to give that iPhone feel and I must say that its definitely impressive. New lockscreen they have is fucking sexy.

Really silly question but if i "root" my phone to a new rom and whatnot will it still be able to hookup to my service providers account and whatnot?

Rooting your phone and/or loading up a new rom does nothing to your service.

I mean like once rooted or rom changed will I still be able to text , and connect to 3g/4g etc? that probably means yes but just making damn sure before I jump in.

Yes, worst case and your provider isn't listed for 3G, they usually provide a service on their website to send you settings by text messages but that shouldn't happen to start with.

every Android Rom aosp or custom, has all the basic functions of what a stock phone would have included (phone dialer, texting, web, camera, market, etc)

CM7 was what I was using, with ADW EX obtained from applanet.. lately i was using Launcher 7 though like i mentioned further up. at first you will miss things from Stock Sense rom, like the people widget if you use fb and twitter, but once you use a custom rom for awhile after tweaking it to your liking, then go back to stock... You'll be ugh.. WTF is this garbage

Only things I like from the stock rom is the text app, people feed widget, and you can get back visual voicemail on CM7 so tweak away, and if anything you can always root it, back up your stock rom and reload it if you miss it just like that

Lol, i meant the look and feel of HTCs text app, the stock android texting app will be there, you can download and use another texting app now without rooting like chomp sms or handcent

Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.


during this process I take out the sd card first right? and after all this I just put my google stuff in and bam it logs back into sprint like a boss?
