What is BG's general consensus on the droid3 anyways? I've read a couple of things about it and none of them are very good. I have a Droid1 atm but will be upgrading around december probably. The couple of sites i read bad things off of may have been like sister sites or something, anyone have anything good to say about it?
What bad things have you heard about it? Only bad thing I don't like is that it wont be a 4g lte phone, other than that it looks really solid
The biggest thing that surprised me was the lack of 4g, it will supposedly have 512mb ram(which seems kind of lackluster for a new gen phone?) and supposedly a 1.2ghz dual core processor?(last i looked this was like a 1ghz single core so i actually am happy with this now)
Also it will ship with 2.2(lol stock phone)
After reading a few more things about it maybe i was just reading too much into the bad stuff and overlooking the good? That 5th row of keys with 1-0 on them looks pretty snazzy tho.
Either way I think I may have been too hasty in seeing bad reviews and thinking was a bad phone, if december comes around and nothing else catches my eye I may give it a shot, tho the lack of 4g kinda makes me T_T
Yea the lack of 4g makes me WAT as well but I'm not too bothered by the 512mb ram and a 1.2ghz dual core should be sexy, Im sure it will ship with gingerbread though
So I finally got off my ass and rooted my Moto Droid and put CM7 on it. The phone runs much better and I'm really liking the new interface. The process wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be. The most difficult part was finding information on rooting it as most of the links I came across were dead. So now that it's rooted, what other neat things can I do? Are there any other roms other than CM7 I should poke around and play with?
Tethering and Using Netflix, google music, idunno wut else lol
So far this morning I've installed a custom theme called Honeybread and a new bootanimation. This is pretty fun. :3
The droid original is very easy to take a part. I would recommend opening it up and cleaning the sand out. I opened mine up to replace the water indicators so I could claim warranty and was surprised how easy it was.
The only thing you need is a special screwdriver (I just took my phone to sears hardware with me and tried until I got a working one since I wasn't sure exactly which).
After that there is maybe 5 screws total. One under the battery case on the left and the rest are under things held on by 2 sided tap and under the "mesh" below the battery. Above the battery is just a piece of plastic that sits over your camera held on by two sided tape. Carefully pull that up, then after that the piece of plastic right above is also held on by two sided tape.
Just take it apart and blow the sand out. The power button just sits there so careful when you open it up.
warranty probably been gone a long time ago. how long have you had it
Same time I signed up for Verzion, about a year and maybe 4-5 months?
Well, there's no ribbon or anything to indicate that you open the phone. It was very easy for me to open and replace the water indicators. Opening that and a can of air blast should take car of your issues and allow you to reseat the power button.
Heres some pics:

also yes, there are several youtube videos.
Think you only have a year for bad parts on a new phone, I could be wrong on that though. I really dont care I root/fix my own phones as needed. And I could give a shit if it was to break really, it suck losing LTE(have a TB) but I would just snag a cheap ass droid Inc or droid x and root the hell out of em.
Phones are just toys to me lol, yet to bust one that I cant fix but if I did oh well.
Owner of a Moto Droid, backflip( though I never did get perma root on this one...) droid x, evo(hated this phone 3g was slow as fuck), droid 2/droid2 global, and now a thunderbolt.
Rooted well over 20 phones and iv started to replace screens. done 3 fixes now all smooth.
edit: you say the moto droid 1 is an easy open? Iv been scared to open that thing for months it has a cracked screen and the touch screens are not cheap for them. Maybe I should take a look again and see. have a good video or something? Because the ones Iv seen have been a lot longer. Also it has a lot of small parts that need to be replaced(like the speaker cover you cant save that I dont think)
moto droid was my first droid(bought it on contract 1 year) droid 2 was my next upgrade, evo was early termination(moved from verizon for a week lol) now I have my Thunderbolt.
Global was my cousins gave it to me when she got a I-Phone, backflip was my aunts, never used the phone outside trying to root it. and finally the Droid X was my Brothers girlfriends, she broke it(water) so they gave it to me to try and fix.
In the time I was letting it dry out in rice, she went out and got two evos with my brother on their own plan. So I guess this one is not mine but they have no use for it.
So when you think about it lol contract termination . yet when I came back they gave me money to get my TB's(father picked one up too) they gave us the fee back and it cost us only 300ish per phone.
So ya no full price phones.
edit: should be noted I am on my fathers plan still, hes been with them for I have no idea how long. not going to get as lucky as I did more then likely with that last trade in.
