D3 doesn't have 4G support? Dammit, I was hoping to be able to make an easy choice on it. Loves my keyboard, but faster service would be nice...
Are there any other new phones with a keyboard? Verizon optional.
doesnt matter Verizon has terrible 4G coverage.
if you have 4g where you live it rocks. 15x 3g speeds I get from them.
also some bad news maybe

aren't most android phones locked (and then cracked)? my only experience has been with iPhones but i thought it was pretty much the same idea as iProducts & jailbreaking (ie it gets done at some point or another)
Just called Verizon and bitched them out into giving me an early upgrade on the Droid 3. I'm 8 months away from my upgrade, and it took about 45 minutes on the phone, but my Droid 3 will arrive no later than Tuesday at 7pm. Quite psyched to be going from an LG Ally (possibly, the most under powered android device, really shouldn't even be a droid) to the Droid 3, which blows just about every existing phone out of the water.
Its a let down because moto claimed to be unlocking phones(even going as far as to say some older phones might be unlocked)
HTC was nice and did not lock some of their phones, or they where just to easy to find holes in. Moto phones on the other hand seem to suck, look at the droid X. Thing took nearly 8 months because CM7 even came to the thing. Moto phones tend to be locked down much tighter then HTC/anything else really. Like I said the backflip I own never even got perma root.
If you dont want root(or dont mind waiting a little for it depending how they lock it) then the D3 may very well be the phone for you. The main droid line has been great, only down side thus far was been blur.
I could very well see myself going back to the Moto droid(1) if I had to, its that good of a phone.
Im still using my droid one can't really decide between going strait for the Droid three or just waiting for the bionic. And yes the case issue sucks too could find one i liked on my droid one so its kinda putting me off for getting the droid three that and honestly i dont think i ever used to physical keyboard other then when i first got it.
Want to make 100% sure because I know you guys know better than just asking a friend or trusting everything you read online. Verizon's data plan changes do NOT effect people that had an unlimited data plan prior to the changes, and will not change when i renew my contract, correct?
Will be sad puppy if someone says that the prices will go up![]()
This is the one thing I hated about my LG Ally, and I'm sure I'll hate about my Droid 3 as soon as it arrives Tuesday. Snap Cases's are complete shit and fall off really easily, break easily, and are really annoying. I much prefer the soft grip cases that are available for the non-sliding phones, like the X and Incredible.
As far as the droid 3 what it has that the other phones dont? As some mentioned, sliding 5 row qwerty (dedicated # keys). I'm not sure how many other phones out there are Dual Core + Front facing cam, but I know for sure it's the only one that Dual Core, Front facing came AND full qwerty slider. 4G would be fucking awesome, but I wouldn't have been able to bully Verizon into giving me an early upgrade if it were 4G (LTE and Apple devices are restricted still). My Ally is so fucking slow sometimes it takes me like 20 seconds just to check a fucking text message with all the lag and bullshit. It was barely enough processing power when I first got it, now after a year of use its just absolutely gone to shit. I used my friends G2 the other day, which scores well below the D3, and even that phone made my Ally seem like ancient technology. So fucking psyched.
edit: Also the first Verizon phone capable of recording full 1080p video with its 8mp rear camera.
yes the cases are horrid. I had a Body Glove I think for my LG Ally. The thing lasted for 1 month. it would not stay on. it kept falling off XD I jumped on the LG Ally back then because I need a physical keyboard and at the time it was the first Android phone that I liked. I never liked the Droid's kb. the amount of memory on the phone sucked. even months after they upgraded to 2.2 allowing you to store some apps on the SD card it still sucked. it ran ok speed overall. I never got into the rooting scene but I've read online that the custom rom Velocity for LG Ally's makes it a pretty good phone. LG Ally is my first android cel I owned so I'll be a little sad when I switch. I'll be getting my Droid 3 today in the afternoon according to Fed Ex. can't wait ^_^
Oh yeah man, it was awful. I was constantly clearing cache, uninstalling old apps, removing updates, etc just to keep the damn thing going. 2.2 Helped a bit to alleviate some of the memory issues, but it's still awful. That and the amount of RAM, which I'm not even sure how much exactly. The phone is terrible man. Sometimes when I back out of an app to the desktop, it'll take me 30 seconds to a 1 min before my icons load and I can click anything. I feel like a little kid on christmas eve waiting for this thing.
Well the first wave of Droid 3's made it to doorsteps today.. and here is the gist of what I've read/found.
Build quality on the phone is being reported as pretty solid. Supposedly the thing just "feels good" in your hands. Lot's of positive things said about the new keyboard. The downer's I'm hearing are: 512MB Ram, MotoBlur (eww), Locked Bootloader, some people complaining the qHD display is a little "Grainy/Pixelated", LOTS of bloatware (doesn't bother me too much with 16gb + Micro SD) but I'm sure once a root is available I will get rid of all that shit. I'm excited as shit to get mine.
got mine early yesterday. I like the screen. it does feel nice in your hands. not too big or small. keyboard is defintely a plus still adapting from my old LG Ally keyboard layout. different layout and such. only minor gripe is the added top row keys for numbers. they are small. annoyingly small. but I can't complain too much considering I have big hands.
still too early for me to judge about the 512MB ram. but comming from a LG Ally I think it's enough. I hear lots of gripes from the MotoBlur. first time experiencing it today and I don't dislike it, yet. I agree with the bloatware. soooo much. there was this golf app/game on it. played it for a bit. then when I when to uninstall it WTF 149MB?! actually phone froze at that point. had to remove battery to get it to work again. I also noticed it was pretty warm by then. LG Ally never got that warm.
at that point I went to bed since I work nights. It's the weekend @ my job, total of maybe 3 people in my building @ my work so I'll be sure abusing my new Droid 3 all night long while @ work. ^_^
This probably isn't the right thread to ask, but I've been trying to convert a few .m4v movies I got as free digital copies in Itunes to something my Android can use. I have tried every free vid player out there and Iskysoft won't convert them to anything on my pc. What's the trick?
