It's only a 1 year upgrade if you're a "premium" customer, which iirc is having paid 70+ bucks a months for 3 consecutive months, or being a customer for 10+ years.

CM6 camera shots look shitty ~.~

I honestly may just go back to a rooted sense rom.I already was using flash 10.1 apk for android 2.1 and the free tethering app..

is there any reason to use cm6 other than speed and getting rid of sense. although it didnt seem too slow to me to begin with

It's basically to be rid of Sense, and get some extra functionality from the full bluetooth stack. Signs seem to point to Froyo for the Evo officially dropping next week, should likely only take a day or two for a rooted stock version to be available after it comes out if you want to stick with the vanilla Evo experience. I'm probably gonna stick with CM6 until DC whips up new ROM based off the official 2.2, since they were by far my favorite ROM, but beta testing 3.5 (their first Froyo attempt) is a little too buggy for my taste.

Did you try call up customer service? I found they were able to change things around for me. Store people work on commission right? If you came in and said that I'd tell you to get the fuck out too and than play with my DroidX >:3

My mom called customer service. They said that they could sell it to me for cheaper, but it'd have to be $299 (normal price) but I wouldn't get the mail in rebate. Iirc you got the Inc right? Maybe that's why it worked for you. What'd you say btw?

I get one free upgrade a year, but it also comes with a 1 year contract extension. Then again, I've been with verizon since they were primeco.

I've been with VZW since 2005. I called up and said "I know my upgrade is in five months but I can't use this Blackberry anymore, I really want a Droid." Women was like "Ok, you can go to the store now and get one or order it online."

Ok, so my archaic phone is starting to bite the dust and I'm dying to get a new phone, preferably a Droid. I've had AT&T for about 9 years and would wish to stay with them. What's my best option here? I also would like to use it for tethering a laptop I'm looking to purchase soon as well.

Then do the same thing once I'm eligible for an upgrade? If so, how messy would that be?

Doesn't At&T use sim cards? Can try just swapping them and see if that works.

Oh wait, Droid X is Verizon(derp). Hmm. You can try chatting up a rep and seeing if thats possible(using the pretense that your mother wishes to give you the phone after the upgrade or something). Time to brush up on those social engineering skillz.

Yes you can do that. It isn't messy at all, when the phone comes in the mail bring it a VZW store and tell them what you want to do. You might need your Mom for this one since she's the account holder.
