The way they explained it to me when i called is the bionic is always looking for a 4g signal even with 3g only selected and instead of just staying on 3g like it should it totally drops the connection when it can't find 4g. Sounds really stupid to me though

Change to cdma auto that's full 3g only. Evdo/lte is the one that lets 4g work. If you care. Lol there's a second.d menu not as important unlesss 4g goes down fully

it seems to sometimes happen with my bionic if im manually turning on/off wifi. like the guy above a quick fix is to toggle airplane mode, so i have the airplane widget on one of the screens. it doesn't happen to often for me though. that & the "squealing" noise that sometimes plays when headphones/etc are plugged in were the two fixes on a list i saw for a november update.

So I was entertaining the idea of a custom rom on my D1. I figure I can back up the sdcard np, and the contact list is linked to gmail, so all I can see otherwise to save would be text message history. Can I do that and is there anything else I would want to keep you think?

Nope, use CM7.1 as your first custom rom.

That is correct. Any new line. Even to an existing family plan.

I'm thinking about adding a line and picking up a Bionic for now since my original droid is nearly dead. Will I be able to swap the numbers with my phone and the bionic then cancel the extra line after the month is up?

I'm trying to hold out till the nexus or prime comes out but if I can get this to work for $10 then I would be able to make it there with ease.

No. The new line would be subject to Early Termination Fee's and probably paying the full price of the phone.

$40/mo. Because it's a smartphone, you HAVE to have a data plan for it. So, that $.01 phone will end up costing $960.01 over two years. Great IDEA! (where the hell is the sarcasm symbol when you need it)

And also to round up the rumor mill, the Motorola Droid RAZR is coming next week as well.

Supposedly equal specs to the Galaxy Nexus, and will be Verizon's flagship phone. Allegedly, Motorola didn't have much faith in the Bionic after all the delays, so they're putting the full force of their advertising and budget behind this one.

you just have to have the line for the contract you dont have to keep a smartphone on it, just get a crappy phone and put it on the line minus the data plan

You can actually remove a phone entirely and just pay the $10/month for "having the line available".

My dad bought his uncle a phone with his Verizon account, since his uncle is old and lives out of state and didn't have a way to contact people. He promptly lost the phone the same day he had gotten it, then later got a different one from some other family member. So now my dad pays $10/month for a third line on his account that has no phone attached to it.

So my Bionic problem was fixed by getting a new SIM card... but now, a few days later, I'm getting no data.

I can't wait for the OTA update in November so I can actually USE my phone all the time.

No data isn't because of your phone. Verizon is having a nationwide LTE outage. Or was, anyway.
