I need some help guys(Keep me with android! )... I am really running into a road block when it comes to android. I love the OS, by far it blows away ISO because of its home launcher. That in itself is great, roms, custom kernels, and even phones with locked bootloders can have edits done to the kernals to make it almost like a unlocked one(My droid 3 is an example I have it OCed even with it "locked down" )
I work with devs on some custom roms. test stuff out and I love doing this type of stuff. My phone must break once a week ~_~ lol
owner of like 10 android phones upgrade almost every 6 months(droid 1, evo, some random samsung phone, droid 2,droid 3, thunderbolt and a few others I have been given to screw around with that never got to networks for more then a day to test something)
Still I am really starting to get pissed off, I never buy a phone that is not considered a big release I want the thing to run what I want, when I want it. But even with a Droid 3(dual core), or a thunderbolt(OCed to 1.5 Ghz) I still find big programs that will FC/bug the hell out even on a so called *better then the real thing* roms.
I hate to even think about it but ISO is starting to look just better and better each day. My ASUS Transformer FCed in the middle of a lecture when taking notes. Stock build not even rooted(its for school so I dont want to take any risks) Its happened with my recording program as well and its driving me crazy.
I do not like ISO's feel(or look it looks like shit to me) however its so more stable when it comes to apps, if I DL and app; it is going to work.
Going to give the GS III a shot and hope for the best, but I really think I may be jumping once the Iphone gets 4G on Verizon... I am going to get torn apart by my friends if that was to happen(I talk so much shit about the Iphone)
edit: I wont be dropping android fully, I still have a Tmobile and MetroPCS account I use to test unlocked phones. Droid 3 on Tmobile is a pain in the ass btw... Global phone my ass.
I think your biggest problem is that you want the open experience yet you buy Motorola phones which are quite the opposite. You want that freedom and shit just working the way you want it to? Get a Nexus.
Theres a reason the only phones I've purchased are G1 -> Nexus One -> Galaxy Nexus.
My main phone has always been a moto phone, but iv used many many other phones. The phones I posted are ones that I have used everyday. Reason being locked down phones tend to work better with apps, when people edit kernals they tend to screw up how some apps work.
I'm a small dev, do loads of testing on other phones. I have a g1(donated) lol I think its closer to 15 androids really.... they all run into the same thing. Big apps such as office editors, cloud apps and even games(hello angry birds lag on my thunderbolt laging on stock andcustom ics beta rom)
Iv been pushing to get a GN for ics editing of asop.
nandroid backup that has been rooted and deodexed can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1568312
MHX and silver are working on a superlite rom.
Google needs to take Android away from all these OEMs cause they've proven themselves to be too incompetent to handle the task of updating people's phones in a timely manner. It's been 5-6 months now since ICS went AOSP and the user base is currently less than 2% with ICS. Thats absolutely atrocious. They are also only releasing new devices with ICS while leaving older devices out to dry. The only people that have ICS are those with GNexus or techy people like us on the boards - we're actually an incredibly small minority of the overall user base.
Google also needs to limit itself to only one major update per year instead of every 6 months. We're already talking Jellybean and most people don't even have Ice Cream Sandwich.
These are things that I hope Google talks about during I/O this year. It's gotten out of hand.
Is there something similar to the samsung galaxy note on at&t, coming to verizon?
so im still on cryogen mod 7, about how far behind am I?
depending on the phone you might be up to date lol
Cyon 7 = GB
Cyon 8 never happened: HC
cyon 9: ICS(some phone wont get this)
I'm on the htc evo 4g is cry 9 better then cry 7 in terms of a worthy upgrade?
did a fast look don't see CyongenMod showing as an official build of 9. ICS is great if there is a stable build.
There might be an un-official build; I'm still running GB on my Droid 3 as ICS is not stable as of yet.
there are nightlies of a few ICS (CM9, AOKP, Gummy) but i can't keep a stable data connection of any form on any that i ran for more than an hour. i am back on eclipse 2.2 but i might try again because it's been about 2 weeks since (using a bionic, but they also come for droid 3, droid 4, razr). if you are non-motorola i haven't really been keeping track. ICS is so awesome too, the first build i used (and i can't remember which day it was) had very stable data but would freeze on any game after 30 seconds. then the games started working and the data didn't. i'm really looking forward to some releases that don't deserve the alpha tag
So my Evo (5th one) finally died tonight and my contract is up next month. I'm thinking of getting the Epic Touch of good of a phone is it? Should I wait until the summer when another, better (Android) phone comes out for Sprint? How do the Google Nexus and Viper 4G LTE stack up to the Epic Touch? The former two haven't come out yet though.
oh my god how did you get up to 5 dead evos?
personally i'm waiting to see what sprint is going to do with the the "one" series. guess that's probably around summer as well.
Willing to bet first one went after a decent amount of time and 2-5 where got from insurance. refurbished phones life span is like a day(if you're lucky)
Its why I don't get insurance lol, I can fix anything on my phone from the os side, and if not odds are the manufacture warranty will cover it(hi, just screw the kernal up to the point where it can't get into recovery)
Edit: I did this with my first evo, 4g on it worked great and for a few months I did not even notice that 3g was slow. I moved back to my old house and no longer had 4g, so the 45kbp I started to get sucked. Told the store and sprint about it and they said no longer coverd without insurance.
still had manufacture warranty on it, said fuck it and installed my droid 1s 2.0 os zip file and crashed it to where they could not even turn the phone on lol.
