wow, sony is gonna let a 3rd party release a hardware for big $$ rather than just make a sofware patch that would be relatively easy for them/ would create more interest in their system/ is long overdue...

Media Molecule is first party.
I was referring to the hardware post, not the game being demo'd with it sry.Media Molecule is first party
As I'm reading the hardware specswow that brings back memories of my snes cheapest replacement controller. Too bad it never worked on any games worth a damn><Turbo option for X, triangle, square, circle, L1, L2, R1, R2 buttons
if it works good on all games(not just fps) I may actually pony up the cash for that cheap, ugly, space-hogging hardware add-on;;
Edit: it would seem that it won' work all that great after watching the demos on the site. Also it seems like it will only really work if the particular game has extensive controller options. If you play a game that has x mapped to melée instead of jump, you have to set that up every time you switch games or else get used to space bar melees...
Console games all have auto-aim turned on by default and it cannot be disabled. Turning it "off" actually just lowers the effect.
I don't play fps games competitively so forgive my ignorance when I ask what the obsession with WASD is. Is this sold more on the ability to have a mouse, as seems to be the case in this thread, or is the kb the luxury of it? Both?
I ask because personally I hate keyboards for movement and find pads or a G13 joystick far better for preslcision movement.
Again, excuse my lack of knowledge in this area, for I know not (nor understand) the joys of slaughtering noobs on the internets.
For online FPS you don't need precision movement in terms of analog input. A walk/run key works well enough for that, and it's faster to change your directional movement on keyboard since it's a button press by one of your three fingers (index through ring), rather than a thumb that has to shift the analog over.
As for PC-game specific things, we're typically allowed to bind commands to other unused keys, which in some games could mean changing equipment on the fly for when you respawn, pre-written warning messages, and in the case of Source games, being able to write scripts to bind to a key for crap such as rocket-jumping.
Microsoft has a specific TCR requirement that does not allow devs to use mouse/keyboard as input devices for gameplay, all games are to "silently ignore all non-controller input." This was a no-go on original xbox and is still a no-go on xbox 360.
There are actually libraries in the XDK (XKBD and XMOUSE) that allow them to be used, but they are debug libraries and you are not allowed to publish your game with them in. Even for MMORPGs on Xbox/360 they test to see if movement is allowed other than typing. It's possible to get a waiver but I'd imagine you'd need some incredible clout to do so.
For original xbox Microsoft absolutely did not want it to look, act, or feel like a PC. Their wording is pretty intense, and it's why original xbox uses "blocks" for storage instead of "kb" and why you will never see words like "corrupt" "format" or other "PC terminology" with the xbox.
In short: possible yes, allowed no.
I've said it again and again, if they would only allow M+KB I would buy more console games. But until they do I will be a die hard PC fan. Console shooting is horrible with the sticks. I would just love jumping into a game w/people who love dual-sticks and showing them how slow they actually are. But of course many developers have made adjustments to their games to slow them down, or dumb them down to allow for the inherent flaws with controllers. We'll never see a Quake 3 style game done well on a console, its just too fast.
Understood. Thanks.
