There is some poor wording here that needs to be cleaned up.

What they wrote:
A: Yes, at the launch it will be worldwide for PS3 and PC.

What they did not (apparently) mean:
A: Yes, at the launch of the game it will be worldwide for PS3 and PC.

What they did apparently mean:
A: Yes, at the launch of each platform it will be worldwide for PS3 and PC.

Actually they said it would be worldwide for PS3 and for PC. They only said yes to his answer, but they didn't repeat exactly what he said. They said PC would be a worldwide launch and PS3 would be a worldwide launch, but did not repeat that it would be a simultaneous worldwide launch for both. They should have clarified, but then again, they didn't have to. They're SE, and can feign a language technicality or something to justify their response.

Technically they didn't lie, but it's a stupid technicality, although, like others, as soon as I heard that PS3's Beta wouldn't start at the same time as PC's, I knew the release dates would be separate.

What, did you think that they'd either have a PC beta ALL the way until PS3 got their shit ready? A 4-6 month beta period for PC, allowing all of the other MMOs to hit the market and drown out a game that the public is already slamming based on Alpha/Beta vids?

Or, did you think that instead, they'd have the PC beta run for a month or so, then suddenly drop their FFXIV news off the face of the planet until they were finally ready for PS3 beta, also allowing all the other MMOs to soak up the vacuum of hungry players?

I didn't expect a September release, but I at least expected a November launch, and I didn't expect PS3 to be released until first quarter of 2011. SE is trying to get ahead of Cata (smart idea for guys like me that were on the fence, wanting -something- fresh) and the other MMOs, and its not like they'd be hurting their Japanese gaming population: the JP's'll buy a new PC if they don't already have one, just to play a SE product.

I expected a post-christmas launch sometime around feb or later.

I didn't think they would cannibalize the remaining two abyssea expansions like that.

However the majority of the player base is japanese and on PS2 - many of whom won't buy the PC version so perhaps demographic wise it isn't that terrible a move.

Another character is a mule. A retainer is something completely different and it'll let you bazaar items even when you're logged out and things like that.

A retainer works the same as a "typical" mule function in FF11 (i.e. extra storage) and also lets you bazaar things when you are not logged in. The only thing different is that it is not a standard "playable" character. The cost of this is $1 (first one free) so for most people that just use current FF11 mules for storage the price is the same.

Exactly, the launch will be worldwide for PS3 & PC. That means PS3 launch will be worldwide, and the PC launch will be worldwide. Just because everyone took a little bit of info and ran w/it doesn't mean they advertised it wrong. They never said PS3 and PC launch would be simultaneous

This surprises me. I think I will pass on the collector's edition and start on the 30th. I'm assuming the people who get it on the 22nd will have all FORMS of issues from updating the first patch, to server crashes. Sounds like 8 days of frustration that i'm not willing to deal with.

On the other hand PS3 users are upset, but I figure what is going to happen is everyone who bought ffxiii will get a shot at "open" beta for PS3 while waiting for the game to come out.

u talking about mmo's 2 years ago. there are no longer server issues at launch (or only minor ones), you cant get away w/that anymore

You have to also think that this beta is basically JUST to run final tests on their 24 hour server capacity. They aren't going to change anything based on suggestions between now and September 30. There isn't enough time even if they want to.

This frustrates me because it means that the shitty pathing that's in the game now is going to exist in the launch. Another FF game where a tiny crack in the ground can obstruct your movement.

Hate to say it, but this was immutable before alpha started. Game engine overhauls have to happen waaaaay early in the development process.

A lot changes in a few months, tons of stuff does in fact. And they have said numerous times that they need feedback throughout beta in order to full assess things and what needs changing, ect,.. Random assumption goes to other thread

Agreed. I just can't see how they don't see it as an issue, but I guess if you work on nothing but your own engine, you lose the ability to denote flaws within it.

im saying companies cant get away w/ having shitty launches anymore. And a mmo hasn't had an unstable launch for a few years now, So I'm highly doubting XI will break the mold. I mean there are usually minor problems at launch, but thats a given. Nothing game breaking anymore that prevents ppl from playing or subject to intense lag
