Sorry to hear that, man. that tour was kinda emotional when i went onboard, just knowing the facts of what happened. the Chief that told the lookout not to worry about the small boat killed himself, he couldn't deal with the grief. But it is an amazing story of what DC (damage control) training can do in a serious emergency, because that fucking ship should have sunk, real talk. Yeah we were out cutting circles in the ocean and our CO came on the 1MC at like 3am to tell us. Our next few port stops from Okinawa to Singapore were super restricted. We went from 6 duty day rotations in port to 2. Shit sucked balls.

You know, skirk... when you're in the position that I'm in... single, no real bills, no close ties with too many people... it doesn't really matter what i do. Afterall, my overall mission is to show the American flag in the placeswe hit, to show american goodwill and what not. For all the drinking and whatnot, we do a lot of volunteering over here, may it be rebuilding schools and homes, cleaning up after flooding, or whatever. the playtime is just a bit of a refund for the hours we spend busting our asses to help the people out that are less fortunate than we are. The day after the story, me and Jeremy went shopping with Kristin, his girl, and another one of their friends. Jeremy dropped about 600 Kuna (/5 to get USD) on a pair of shoes, and i bought Kristin underwear, shit for her apartment and some clothes. She told me she makes about 450 Kuna a MONTH. 90 dollars a month. so when we left, since they're the only country that uses Kuna, we gave her our leftover cash. We gave her enough to finish her college education... and that was just spare money we had. I feel better giving to a cause such as that, rather than taking it home and sticking it in a box to never be used again. She told us her college tuition per semester is maybe 400, we ended up giving her something like 2.2k in the end. It's little things like that which show that not all americans are fucktards (sup olroy)

Oh, I didn't mean that in any disparaging way to you. I have a lot of respect (and admittedly, envy) for someone with the ability to grab life by the balls the way you do and take what you see. I've never been one to act first and worry later, so I have an appreciation for people who are able to do that because they typically tend to be happier than people who plan everything out like myself. Trust me, I have a lot of respect for you -- I don't look down on what you do in your personal life at all. Just not something I could do myself.

Sometimes you gotta listen to the words even if you don't personally respect the person saying them. Look at the words at face value and determine their validity in and of themselves, if you sit there dismissing or validating it based off of who is saying it you can miss some really good messages due to a very unnecessary defense mechanism.

I spent a large part of my life using the same mentality you did and essentially shot myself in the foot because being so self assured didn't do me a bit of good. Combine your mentality with either an arbitrary line or complete lack of respect for others and you'll be plugging your fingers in your ears until you go deaf.
