    Best Pre-Built PC for FF14 for ~$1000

Pretty much a PC noob these days, no idea about all the new tech out there.

    FFXIV minimum specs are

"The specs for the PC version are as follows: Windows XP/Vista/7, Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 15GB HDD space, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 512MB or ATI Radeon HD 2900 512MB and DirectX 9."

Looking to see if I can get a pre-built online that will blow that away (but obviously not be the most amazing machine ever) for about $1000. A little higher is probably okay. Don't need monitor.

    Any good ideas?

Any of these should do, didn't really check specifically but the graphic card/CPU are pretty good

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...on%20HD%205770

But that's really overpriced for something that would cost $300 less if you did it yourself.

Edit: No matter what you buy, please do check the GPU, that's what manufacturers gimp the most to make profits, selling you uttershit integrated chipsets.

Not to mention CPU and RAM are just this side of insignificant in the official benchmark.

You will get more out of a six core for this game. Check out the benchmark thread.

Both of these come with a 5770 which should be enough to run FFXIV at max settings. The processor from the looks of the benchmark thread is also very important.

Video card does all of the heavy lifting. I have an i7 and 12GB of RAM, but people with worse processors but using a 5870 (I have a 4890) were getting double my bench score on the HQ benchmark. If you want best performance for your buck, you can go average on CPU and RAM, but don't skimp on the vidcard.

Yeah, I totally missed the pre-built part. But if you wanna see my build it's still here.

    Spoiler: show
Under a grand eh? Let's see what we can do.. Keep in mind tho I'm not including combos or coupon codes tho since they expire:

    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 - $120
    CPU: Intel Core i5-655K OR Core i5-750 - $195/210
    Memory: Corsair XMS3 2x2GB DDR3-1600 - $100
    Graphics: Gigabyte Radeon 5850 1GB - $310
    Storage: WD 1TB SATA-600 64MB - $95
    Optical: Samsung SH-S223L Drive - $22
    Power: Corsair 650TX - $90
    Case: CoolerMaster HAF 922 Mid-Tower ATX - $90

Total is $1010-1025, not including a Win7 license.

If you can find something along those lines from say CyberpowerPC or ibuypower, you'd be in good shape. You won't find anything close to this tho from Dell, HP or Gateway without spending at least $500 more.

For 1k you should be able to obliterate what ever is needed to run ffxiv at full specs. I think my PC cost around 300 bucks in parts from random sites and it handled the alpha just fine. Only lag at all was during character creation (which was buggy but has been completely re-done anyway).

Could anyone recommend a fairly cheap (~$200) graphics card ? Right now my PC looks to be able to meet those minimum specs, but I'm using a GForce 7950 so that is the only upgrade I need to make.

Or you could wait 2-3 months and hope for a price drop on the HD5850.

My 2 year old computer with a core2duo E6850 ran that benchmark pretty flawlessly. I have a pretty old videocard too (8800gt OC) with 4 gigs of ram and windows 7...don't honestly think you need that high of a rig to run this game.

Your machine should work just fine for FFXIV. In fact, your video card is actually better than their minimum recommended (despite being about a year older).

How are these Dell XPS 8100? I know that opinions vary on Dell PCs and know you can usually build a cheaper one yourself and you can't always upgrade a Dell.
I have been taking a look at the 8100 though and to be honest it doesnt even seem that bad.

What I don't get is why isn't some enterprising BG soul offering to build boxes.
Even with labor markup, I'm sure there are enough people willing to buy to make it worthwhile.

I have a dell xps studio 8000 and I just got that 8100 for my mom, both are almost identical and both from the outlet. My 8000 runs fine I dont see lag or anything, almost nothing to worry about other then the normal issues with any pc. I would recommend to anyone to at least check it out if they are looking for a decent setup that is pre-build. I have not looked into upgrading the machine yet as it works great. Only issue I ran into that most would NOT is the wireless card did not work well/at all under Linux so i am stuck using windows 7.
