You'll be fine, MS have historically tended to oscillate when it comes to quality of operating systems.

Win3.1 (good) -> 95 (decent, not great) -> 98 (Good) -> ME (very bad) -> XP / 2K (Good) -> Vista (bad) -> Win7 (Good)

Edit: @Shuvo don't forget ME.... it was my 1st OS. I remember taking the brand new computer out of the box, hooking it up, and getting BSoD. I thought i killed the computer opening it up!

Vista wasn't "very bad", and certainly not on the level of ME which had major, major flaws. Vista was more like.... a beta that the public helped to test

By the time SP1 rolled around it was a pretty decent OS.

Anyway I don't really like the idea of an "app store", makes me paranoid that Microsoft would try to make cool things "premium" features to try to cash in on them. The Sidebar and widgets are nice but hell if I'm gonna pay for them! I just hope they focus on streamlining response time, with the processing power these days it's a crime that most programs still don't open instantly...

And really, the Mac v PC thing again? It's been overdone. Let's keep talking about Windows 8 and not fall into that derail for the billionth time..

Vista sucks. I'd give a detailed argument why but I'm sure that's been beaten to death as well somewhere. But I'll agree that it wasn't as bad as ME.

Was just pointing out that MS software is expensive because it's their business model, apple can sell its os cheap because 99% of people using it are using their hardware.
