July 1st is "Canada Day". It's like our July 4th, except nothing important happened to give cause for the celebration. I like to compare it to my urge to party on Friday nights simply because i don't have to work on the weekend.

Of course, American History courses will differentiate from Canadian History courses...so who knows.

i'm not "butthurt". i just find the holiday funny since Canada was celebrating this "independence day" long before it was actually independent of rule from England.

So I think that the important thing is that both dates for Canada and the US are symbolic of a process and an ends. The war of independence wasn't, after all won on July 4th...
