"Using credit histories can also lead to inadvertent racial discrimination because African Americans and Latinos generally have lower credit scores, he said. "

I love that line. Apparently discriminating against something that has a correlation to race (but not discriminating against the race itself) equals "inadvertent racial discrimination".

Because broke people do stupid shit that can ruin companies. If you have bad credit, you can't get security clearance with any major company related to an US Govt project. Speeding Tickets/Overdrafts also have a chance to bar you from security clearance in the US Military.

Because I believe what someone does in the privacy of their own home is their business. As long as said actions do not negatively affect any unwilling persons.

I should have said, "I'm against drug testing employees for no reason at all."

If I smoke pot, come to work every day and bust my ass. Why should it matter that I smoke pot?

I'm accountable to my employer from 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday. Anything outside of that time period is none of their business.

Drugs are illegal. You are an employee of said company. You get busted for drugs it will be reported that "x person was an employee of y company". This will fall negatively on your employer and they don't want to deal with that.

Also if you ever work a salaried position, you're really never on "your own" time.

Pot smoker pride really irritates the shit out of me. You're doing something illegal, regardless of whether you think it should or shouldn't be illegal. You shouldn't expect to be treated like a law abiding citizen.

You obviously do not ever drive above the speed limit, always come to a complete stop at a stop sign and never ever increase or even maintain speed when approaching a yellow light.

Hypocrites really irritate the shit out of me.

And what the heck are you talking about never being on "your own" time if you are salaried? My employer doesn't own my soul just because they define my pay by pay period instead of by the hour.

If you want to debate the merits of pot smoking, then do it on it's merits. Don't point to the law as some great arbiter of good and evil, and then violate other laws as you see fit. There are legitimate reasons why drugs should not be consumed and why they should be illegal. You, sadly, have not identified a single one of them, though.

In the military, part of your security clearance is a credit check. If you have bad credit, they are afraid you might start selling secrets. On the other side of that, if you suddenly get into financial trouble and your credit starts to suck, they can also revoke your security clearance on those grounds alone.

In certain situations, I don't find it too instrusive, but if it's a position that has no interaction with money and shit, stay the hell out of my credit report.
I worked at a casino as a Count Team Clerk, which meant I helped handle, collect and count all of the Casino's income. There were days where I would physically move 2-5 Million dollars in a day. It took 9 of us 10ish hours on two money counting machines to process the whole thing, although we only did drops (Opening and collecting money from slot machines) twice a week. Nonetheless, I was only 19 and all I had to pass was a criminal background check for my gaming license. No credit check, not even a goddamned drug test (Although, the casino DID do random drug screenings. Not like everyone had to drop randomly, it was more of a lottery system).

If I break the law I do not expect people to not punish me for it if I am caught. That's the point I was trying to make.

If you break the law and are caught doing so, don't expect to not have any repercussions.

Also thanks for assuming my driving habits to use as leverage to call me a hypocrite.

I just want to state that I really loathe people who point out that smoking pot is technically breaking the law, therefore all possible consequences for smoking pot are completely justified

law is not necessarily equatable to reason

As someone with great credit, this sucks.

Erm, except I don't apply for jobs at fucking OfficeMax, so it doesn't matter. Upgrade your employers, son!

I'd actually be for credit checks if I felt employers would use them wisely.

Instead, they will likely lump the person that has bad credit due to a major illness in the past with the person that has bad credit because they bought a car for two times their salary.

I do believe a person with good credit is more likely to be a responsible person, but a person with bad credit isn't necessarily an irresponsible person.

-It isn't my employer's responsibility to find out if I'm breaking the law or not.

-I work a salaried position. So that argument you made in your prior post doesn't fly. I work salary b/c I travel for business, and I would fucking bankrupt them with the overtime. Like I said, I work 8:30 - 5, why I do before and after are my business. I make roughly 100k a year at my position including commission, so you might as well get the toking hippie vision out of your head.

-If you commit a crime.....how exactly is your job going to find out about it, unless you're thrown in jail? The police don't report your arrests to your place of employment. I shouldn't say that......I don't know if they report felonies. (Felonies are not what we are discussing here)

When an employer runs your driving record for an office job, and passes on your employment b/c of a speeding ticket...... I'll accept drug testing.

Until then I will choose to work for companies that don't feel the need to invade my personal life.

Also thanks for assuming my driving habits to use as leverage to call me a hypocrite.
So are you trying to say you have never driven over the speed limit? I say the assumption he made was pretty accurate.
