That's really good for Oregon. I always hate the whole credit check thing when I am looking for a job. I've never been refused a job when it gets to the credit check level, but I still think that the whole thing is really intrusive and oversteps privacy.

Kind of related to the topic - mostly overtired rambling. tl;dr is that my mother hasn't had but one call back in close to a year of job searching failing the credit check.

When I was younger, my mother has been unemployed for a couple years after a pancreatic attack (She developed Type 2 diabetes while going through a turbulent divorce) that almost took her life. She (we) survived on her credit cards, which had insane limits, for the time between where she was unable to work (during which her other medical conditions go worse) and that sack of shit she married couldn't hold a job. Her credit score tanked. We're not sure of her score or how much she owes but it's well over $40,000 after all these years.

After we moved, she divorced, and her situation somewhat stabilized she tried applying for a few jobs. Quite a few. Her health had eliminated any physical work (spinal stenosis/generative disc, asthma, neuropathy in her feet) and so most of the positions she could work involved handling money, and therefore a credit check. After 3 months of active searching she finally got a call back and a hire. She held the position for nearly a month before HR discovered an oversight; The job required you to be able to lift 50lbs, her doctor's slip said no more than 30lbs (which they've always had), so she was asked to leave mid-shift.

Fast forward half a year and she's still in the same position she was in originally - now with a partially frozen shoulder. She's working on obtaining a form of disability but her near life-long PMD recently dumped her insurance company. Starting with a fresh doctor has given root to some delays and he's not really willing to "fight" as hard as he could for her.

The idea behind the military kicking you for bad credit/debt is that if you have access to sensitive information, you might sell to other countries in an attempt to settle your financial issues.

Also thanks for assuming my driving habits to use as leverage to call me a hypocrite.
I didn't "assume" your driving habits. It is actually dangerous to not speed on the highway because you would not be keeping with the flow of traffic.

The point you are trying to make is ridiculous because it is based on the notion that law defines morality. Law is usually informed by morality, but often law is informed by many other things that are immoral also.

The point that you missed, and the only really relevant point to be made, is that condemning someone because they violate the law is vacuous. You should debate the issue on it's merits.

What you missed is that he is not advocating speeding.

Credit must need to be horrendously bad then, because my ex-husband's credit is god-awful (of course, not until after he finished fucking mine, then when we divorced he had no one else's to fuck up but his own) and he's still in.

I understand the reasoning behind it, but the same people who are poor and really just want to work are a thousand times more honest than the poor people who aren't even looking for work but figure they can just steal everything they need. To me, the mere fact that someone is willing to work is a pretty good sign that they're an honest person, as I've seen so many people who just figure they can live off the system for the rest of their lives, committing crimes to supplement.
