Due to the somewhat 'extreme' recommended requirements for XIV on the PC, I can see the PS3 version being a very attractive option for many people that don't have a gaming PC built within the last six months, be that for any reason.

The thing I wonder about the PS3 version is how much 'more' it will cost. Back when FFXI came out for PS2, they sold it with a mandatory hard drive that connected to the system, which increased the price of the game rather substantially. Since again the speculated 'reason' that the PS3 version of XIV is being delayed until March of 2011 is because of hardware issues (I heard not enough ram, but I suppose I'm not certain,) it really makes me wonder what sort of device will be sold with the PS3 version in order to play the game.

It may very well have to be sold with a ram upgrade or a graphic's card insert. Now, couple that with the rumors of Sony heavily debating charging for their Playstation Network service (similar to how Microsoft charges for XBox Live,) one has to wonder if it might be worth it to buy a new PC rather than wait.

Even more though, some people may not be able to play this game due to monetary concerns, which is rather unfortunate.

Holding back the PS3 release works out extremely well for me. Got a pretty tough couple semesters ahead of me, and I don't want to get sucked into FFXIV so early. I probably wouldn't even be able to log in until the end of April if I bought the March release anyway.

Also, there shouldn't be any added costs to the PS3 copy. Probably MSRP 59.99, with optional peripherals (now that we got cross-game chat on PS+, Bluetooth would be a good option).

My first gut feeling now is why bother?

I'm curious to feel how others restricted to PS3 access are feeling.

Mods if this is not the right place for this, feel free to nuke it. And sorry if it is.

Personally, I've been so upset I haven't posted anything FFXIV related on ANY forum from that announcement, till right now. I feel you guys. I just read on Core that SE announced Open Beta will be soon, does this mean PS3 won't even get to test? Bah...

I was pretty pissed at first, but now I see it a bit different, I just get to come in 6 months in once it's truly bug free and settled down. Although I lost a lot of time spent on getting lots of FFXIII codes for Beta, hell, I can still pass out the in game item codes to those who don't have any. The fact of me coming in a few months late into the game took me about a day to get over.

What gets me mad is the marketing aspect toward the PS3 version, IE FFXIII coming with a free in game item (which we'll still get even when we come in later on) as well as "a chance to enter into beta". Also, most of the DEV interviews mentioned the Testing phases going A1, A2, B1, B2, OB, with PS3 coming in at about the B2 phase. We're currently in B3, not far away from OB, with still no talk of PS3 getting its shot. The time frame from right now till release is a little over a month, we can only hope for that much. I won't get into Business talk about it cause we'll be here forever..

All we can hope for at this point is two things: 1)A chance to even test on PS3, and, 2)IF we don't even get to test have an uber CE to make up for this shit.

Am I still a SE and FF fan? Sure. Am I pretty pissed off right now? Hell yea. But what's the best part of breaking up with someone everyone? Make up sex. And SE owes me A LOT

First of all for all you ppl being upset, Playing my friends beta toon made me realize I was happy that the JP's had to put up with not having weapons @ start of game... and yes we'll be 3 months ahead of PS3, by the end of the first 2 months. By the time you guys get in game most the real issues with the game.

There are plans for a PS3 beta, but it's going to come after PC beta... I use to complain that US had to wait a year before our version came out. Now looking at it... It's all good^^

Just think you won't have to be like us being lvl 17 with a lvl 1 weapon day one. Sad thing is I'd be happy to have a level 6 weapon... consider not having to deal with that your floor play @ the very least.

Yes you have to wait... honestly you won't be waiting as long as I was for FFXI. Cheer up... won't be much longer... SE is pretty anal, I'm pretty sure they will have a PS3 beta...

PS I didn't Drudge this one up...

You can tailor a PC to work with a new game, you -have- to tailor the game to work with a console. Technical problems should be expected with any console and a multi-platform game.

I think on the reservation list at Gamestop it's listed at $60, but that could always change any time along the way.

Also I seriously doubt Sony is going to charge for their online service.

I considered the PS3 version but I liked the flexibility of my PC with macros and ventrilo. It just seemed much easier since my TV is no where near my PC, so using vent was out of the question.

I can't play an MMO without vent.

i have no choice. I literally have to play ffxiv on ps3. Your going to need a pc worth around 4grand just to play it at normal settings. The video card might net you around 1grand. The main difference will be graphics and the fact that the pc will have access to add ons and/or bots/hacks/3rd party programs. All the fun stuff that plagued ff11.

If you go to the hardware thread you'll see people putting together decent machines to play this for under a grand not this magical 4grand number you seem to have pulled out of your ass.

My PC cost about $650.. and that's well above minimum reqs. If you wanted to just shoot for minimum you can probably throw down ~$300-$400. I built my own, but you can get a store bought in that price range easily.

or you can buy a $300 ps3 and save yourself some money instead of spending ~$1k to get something that will be largely outdated in 3 years.

Not really. I have a computer that can play FFXIV around minimum specs. It plays. I thought about getting a new computer for it, but it makes no sense for me to. A computer that could run this game well enough would be around ~$1k. Why spend anything less to get something that runs it a little bit better than mine does already? Why spend ~$1k on a desktop for one game and that's it?

It's called being patient. Why spend more than you have to when you can wait and get something just as good for less? I think spending ~$1k instead of $300 is just being stupid IF you don't need a computer AND you are only playing FFXIV.

Agreed... I have thought about buying PS3 version instead of buying a new PC... my 2 year old computer will run it, but even after upgrading my Videocard it doesn't run the game @ higher ends. PS3 has just as much processing power as most i7 and GPU is as good if not better than anything out for PC. My CPU is now my computers bottleneck instead of my Videocard now... YAY... $230 for a new video card and still not run Great or spend $300 on PS3?

If you already have a computer why do you need to buy a new one if the old one works well enough... for one game? Personally I have a PS3 already and will probably end up buying 2 copies of the same game.

Well you are not everyone and not everyone is buying a new pc for ff14, that's why it's stupid. Also the PS3 version is going to be trash compared to the pc one going by what SE has said so have fun with that.

The GPU inside the PS3 is a modified version of the Nvidia GTX 7800 256mb, so uh... there is much better out for PC.

You can get mobo, 4gb DDR3 ram, 2.9ghz quad core AMD processor, GTX 460 and a 600w PSU all for around $500 on Newegg. If you currently have a PC, you can use some of the parts from it and have a complete PC with that. That should be able to run FF14 on high settings. Just saying.
