That's on you for buying a PS3 so early, before the release date was even announced.

That being said, I would be a little peeved too, if I had no choice but to play on PS3.

In fact, I was going to buy the PS3 version, but with the delay I will just upgrade my GPU right before the game comes out and play the PC version.

Doesn't affect me, although I'm sad that one of my buddies on PS3 will have to wait.

Then again, I've been telling him for a year that I'd build him a PC if he bought the parts, and a rig that would be able to play XIV isn't particularly expensive.

Anyone would would walk away from the game forever because they had to wait 6 months, nothing of value would be lost.

I doubt you can find parts (retail) that CAN'T play FFXIV. Maybe a really really cheap laptop. All the graphics cards in stores now can handle the benchmark with good framerates (mabye not great scores tho).

And yet... imagine how much better both games would have done if they had a fresh batch of ravenous fans ready to revitalize the first batch of players that were already getting bored after 6 months.

While I sympathize with most PS3 users (except the OP, who made me rofl saying that "most serious players" would be on the PS3) and am glad I'm not one of you, I think this is a sound strategy. I poked around WAR and Aion. It was like "here's the game, enjoy." There was nothing exciting coming in the future to look forward to. While so far all we're hearing from SE is "we're really excited about this and have a LOT for you to look forward to." While it sucks for some of you that just playing the game has to be something you look forward to... well, meh. It's better to have SOME kind of positive expectation beyond day 84 in Limsa Lominsa, wondering if the devs have forgotten about you.

I am not saying FFXI will be like them, but I definitely think a lot of progress can and will be made in half a year for those on the PC. The hard "hidden" info will be the kinds of things that players will still be discovering. But things like quests/the best places to xp/ etc. will all be known. And it's fun to try and figure those things out. For me anyway.

It's not enough to make me not want to play, but it's enough for me to buy both versions.
That kinda makes the argument worse, imo.
By the time the PS3 version hits, most, maybe all of the bugs and math bullshit will be dealt with. Less tedious stuff will have to be figured out and there'll probably be a bunch of patches worth of improvements and additions. By the time PS3 players reach the PC players in strength, there will be a lot less nothing-time between their 'capping' and the release of the expansion.

I'm hoping my laptop can run it.. the beta specs (or w/e specs they are..) I see floating around is pretty much exactly the specs of my laptop. It'll have to do till PS3 version.. although I'd much rather just buy one version..

I'll be playing on PC, but if I had bought a PS3 for this I'd be pretty upset.
That said, you could build a PC capable of playing this as well as or better than a PS3 for only slightly more than the cost of a PS3, and if you have a hard drive/DVD drive/Decent case to reuse, you could do it for about the same price.

Despite the bugs/etc. I would still prefer to play it on PC earlier. If the glitches/etc. were really such a big deal, people wouldn't bother getting the game until around the PS3 launch anyways.

While I feel for the PS3 crowd, I'm highly doubtful it will actually take 9 months from today to get the PS3 version live when the PC version is already so close to finished.

I'd say SE are just giving themselves some leg room. The PS3 verison will be late obviously, but not as late as March 2011 imo.

It's been said already, but all these people saying "I bought a PS3 just for this game, now I'm pissed. SE is stupid"
Why the fuck did you buy a ps3 when the game wasn't even out yet? PS3's are in no short supply. All stores arent going to suddenly stop carrying the ps3. It's your own retarded fault.

I started FFXI several months after it released. It was a blast, and I enjoyed the game for over 5 years.

    Shut up please.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

it maybe a marketing ploy, but that doesn't mean people SHOULD be satisfied with having to be in the second batch.

It doesn't make the argument worse for the people that enjoy that aspect of a new game, which is all I'm getting at. Some of us enjoy that. Myself included.

Of course some people will enjoy having everything handed to them and lots of bugs fixed, but there are others, like me, that enjoy coming into a game where everyone is a total newb (outside the beta/alpha testers) and getting to try things out for the first time.

But that's what the PS3 users will get to experience. Most of you are total newbs to the game, and I ask you- why should you care about those that are ahead? You'll have a blast playing with other PS3 users.

That's how XI was in the first place- there were the JP's but that didn't matter now, did it? And even though I joined even few months after the NA release, that didn't mean there weren't tons of newbs running around still.

More often than not, I would look at the players with high level characters (lvl50? HOLY SHIT) and want to become like them, totally cool and high level. I wasn't jealous that they got to start before me, what reason was there for that? I just enjoyed the game while becoming stronger every day. Once I catched up, at that point things started getting stale. That does tell me something about priorities.

Not to mention that while I was still having a blast, people who got to endgame sooner were already complaining about the lack or quality of content. I did enjoy the game a lot longer than most, by not racing to the cap.

I see why PS3 users are upset right now, but in the end I think they're better off than we are tbh. At least in the long run.

I just don't see how being a complete nub and entering an improved gaming environment are mutually exclusive.

If there are things you don't want to know when you start, there's nothing stopping you from doing that. The fact remains that the game can only improve with time and it's easier to get tired of content the longer you're around. I guess what I'm saying is that the time delay is something to reasonably complain about (up to a point), but I personally think it's petty and stupid to argue the apparent power gap it will create due to the reasons I've already stated.

In retrospect, the expansion angle is a little weak now that I think about it. If SE sticks to their recent 15-21 month cycle, it'll be 2012 before a (full) FFXIV expansion comes out. They may go the Add-On route and give us minor area updates for $10 each, but I expect their first foray into FFXIV world building will be a full $30-40 extravaganza.

What other MMOs can be played on PS3? Oh thats right none. Is it really that hard for people to buy a computer? Seriously. I don't think I personally know anyone who doesn't own a computer. My parents are the last people on the technology train and they have 2 computers. Get a computer to play ff14, or cry on forums about it. if you for some reason can't afford to buy a computer, maybe examine your life and figure out what you're doing wrong. Because you are definitely doing something wrong.

I feel you're understating the situation.
It isn't simply getting a computer, it's getting one that can run FFXIV nicely. The benchmark thread made it fairly clear that while meeting specifications will get it to run and this can be done relatively chaply, getting close to full settings will involve a greater investment.

Also, read Rich Dad, Poor Dad to someone else.

Idk what you mean with the rich dad, poor dad statement. I'm 30 years old, and when I was a teenager I worked in the summers to save money to buy shit I wanted. If you can read, you can build your own computer. Making a PC that will play ff14 nicely is not going to break anyone, especially teenagers willing to put in some effort to save money since all their income is disposable.

Bottom line is this: If this game matters that much to someone, they will put in effort to get a decent PC in the next few months. If it isn't worth it to them, they will continue to do whatever it is that keeps them so busy they can't come up with money for a PC. And I do not know what that could be, other than laziness.

Additionally, in regards to getting it to run nicely. Build a PC that will run the game, play with your friends have fun etc. Work on building a better PC for the future. I don't even make a lot of money and have rent/car payment/insurance/utilitys/internet/food/random necessities to pay for each month. i could still suck it up and buy a new PC in the next few months before the game comes out. I guess just like ff11, it all comes down to how much effort you are willing to put into it.

I am pretty miffed about it because it wont be fun logging in for the first time to someone calling me a noob because im not max level and whatnot.
I went from 200% excitement to like 10% excitement, because it will be about as exciting as reactivating my XI account (ok a little more exciting, but still).
I would say I dont want it at all but of course I'll get it March anyways, no avoiding that.
Its like the first time you quit FFXI, you wait like a week and you get over it.

But if someones already decided to play on the PS3, lower resolution, not quite as sharp textures, why would they have a problem with playing on lower settings on the PC?

What the hell is this kind of mindset? If people have become jaded and elitist towards new players only after few months, I will be extremely disappointed.

I had most fun helping out new players and teaching them the tricks of this game (and they'd look up to me, like I did those who helped me back then, which is a nice incentive).. If a newb asks you a question or needs some help, what kind of an idiot would call him a noob in such situation? Shit makes no sense to me. I hope the community won't be so pathetic and egocentric.
