Honestly, if your a new PS3 player, and someone tells you to GTFO because your not a PC player, then they aren't someone you wanted to play with anyway.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

That's how XI was in the first place- there were the JP's but that didn't matter now, did it? And even though I joined even few months after the NA release, that didn't mean there weren't tons of newbs running around still.

More often than not, I would look at the players with high level characters (lvl50? HOLY SHIT) and want to become like them, totally cool and high level. I wasn't jealous that they got to start before me, what reason was there for that? I just enjoyed the game while becoming stronger every day. Once I catched up, at that point things started getting stale. That does tell me something about priorities.

Not to mention that while I was still having a blast, people who got to endgame sooner were already complaining about the lack or quality of content. I did enjoy the game a lot longer than most, by not racing to the cap.

I see why PS3 users are upset right now, but in the end I think they're better off than we are tbh. At least in the long run.

The fact remains that the game can only improve with time and it's easier to get tired of content the longer you're around. I guess what I'm saying is that the time delay is something to reasonably complain about (up to a point), but I personally think it's petty and stupid to argue the apparent power gap it will create due to the reasons I've already stated.

In retrospect, the expansion angle is a little weak now that I think about it. If SE sticks to their recent 15-21 month cycle, it'll be 2012 before a (full) FFXIV expansion comes out. They may go the Add-On route and give us minor area updates for $10 each, but I expect their first foray into FFXIV world building will be a full $30-40 extravaganza.
It all comes down to preference. You can't say one is better than the other if people want to start fresh with everyone else.

Also, you can't say I'm being dramatic as I already stated I'll buy the pc version for this reason. So I'm not really QQing, just saying why people are upset, and they have a right to be if that's what they wanted.

But it's not all bad in this situation, there's good sides as well. It's not the best situation to be in for some but it's not all -that- bad either, and there are clear advantages, which was my point.

I'm not saying you're dramatic btw, which is why I said that before quoting you. It was a response to the OP's "Now I won't buy the game AT ALL! And make a thread about it" rant.

It isn't simply getting a computer, it's getting one that can run FFXIV nicely. The benchmark thread made it fairly clear that while meeting specifications will get it to run and this can be done relatively chaply, getting close to full settings will involve a greater investment.

Also, read Rich Dad, Poor Dad to someone else.
The benchmark is shit if this isn't already known, your better off running heaven or 3dmark.

After the release dates were announced, and all the stupid shit added to pre-orders and collectors editions. I went to the official site, and the feeling of anticipation and excitement that used to be in the very back of mind when looking at that site went away. It was replaced by this feeling that I was no longer considering playing a game, but investing in a product and this site wasn't there to inform me, it was just trying to get me to buy as much useless bullshit as it possibly could. I will probably be forced to wait the additional six months, but it might be good because then I wont throw my controller into a wall when SE releases $25 chocobo skins as micro-transactions.

    Maybe I'm just mad.

I seem to need to clarify my point again.

I'm not angry that I bought a PS3 specifically for the game and now this happened.

I've enjoyed many other games on it, and it's a nice blue-ray player. So I'm getting a lot of value and use from the machine. Knowing that 14 would be playable on it motivated me to get one, but I do not regret that I have. I opened with my statement of 'having specifically bought' it to highlight that I was a person who was ready for, and looking forward to the PS3 version being out at the same time as the PC version as all the advanced promo stuff told us.

Was I dumb to believe SE's ad copy? Probably. Bad on me. But I am not upset I have the machine. I'm disappointed that I won't share the game from it's start.

As to all the folks saying just build a PC etc, I know it sounds easy, but for me at least cash is not something that I have much extra of. The PS3 was my major entertainment purchase for '09. It was almost all of my free entertainment $'s for the year. A PC would have cost me more then the $350 the 3 cost me by a good bit, and simply wouldn't be in the budget. This is not a complaint. I simply recognize that I need to live in my means, and plan and make purchases to do so.

FF XI has been my hobby and entertainment for many years, and XIV probably will be also. But my enthusiasm was really dented by the news. I'd hoped to be a part of things from the start. I do feel as if I'll be getting a different experience then I would have, and it might not be one that is as fun as what I'd expected.

Oh, and my statement about 'serious players'? I meant it to read that the serious players will be on PC's. It seems that all of the folks here that I've read posts doing the math, and who dat mine and so forth are on PC's To me you are the serious ones. The same folks who worked hard to make the Alpha, and so on... Sorry that I was unclear there.

Also the person who spoke about being noobed for being on PS3... When I started FF XI I remember being asked often if I was on a PC or PS2 and if I said PS2 I suddenly found myself not in a party many times. So I can see his point. We were treated badly by many folks. I always figured that with the huge influx of PS2 players the more experienced PC players encountered a lot of bad players and decided that avoiding us all was the way to go.

To sum up, I'm not angry. I'm just disappointed and a tiny bit down because something I looked forward to not only has jumped a good bit into the future, but others will be able to enjoy, and I'll be able to fully watch here on forums like this one while they do. It's frustrating.

    Thanks for listening.

It's definitely an option to consider.

Sadly it's hard to take any descent along the lines of "I will not buy this game now" is hard to believe on this forum. A lot of it is just venting before they go back to slutting it out for SE all over again when PS3 version comes out. (If they don't buy a new PC by then)

I was absolutely certain that the PS3 version of FFXIV was getting released in 2010, there wasn't even a doubt in my mind. I've bought a PS3 to play FFXIV on but i actually use it for alot of things. I can certainly catch up to and surpass the PC people in a short time but the world will already be tainted and challenges conquered, it certainly won't be a brand spanking new world that i'm going to step into.

    - The alpha only supports Windows, but will the beta phase add support for PS3?

Tanaka: We may not make it in time for phase 1 of the beta, but around phase 2 of the beta we believe we will be able to support PS3.
This specific question is where i'm a little confused unless it's not true. PS3 users are to be included in the second phase of beta testing which means that the console version is complete and PS3 users could be playing alongside PC users on September 30. For some odd reason though, Square Enix chooses to make the console user wait quite a long time.

Meh, there are a lot of possibilities. Alpha might've run fine, but when they added SSAO and all those other effects shit didn't work out as planned. Instead of removing them from the PS3 version, they might be trying to optimize them further.

It's no use thinking about it. It is how it is.

You guys are ridiculous. It was a shitty move period. They could have saved release for December and successfully offset a lot of disappointment. Sure there would have been bitching, but 3 mnths are easier to swallow than 6.

Also, let's be real. "you get to avoid the bugs"? most people rather play the game than care about that, and those playing, if it's so much a chore why are intending on paying to do it?

Ps3 release date isn't happening soon, so get over it. I think it will harm sales a bit, and it's a dumb move, but that's just me. People will lose interest, but that's SEs lost. You have basically 3 months to upgrade your system to minimal requirements if you really wanted to play or to have the advantage. Who knows, they may even have open beta for ps3. They will want to boost console gamers. So chill, you may get to play for free

SEs answer wasn't really specific though. Tanaka doesn't sound so convincing to be honest. Plus, during the transition from alpha to beta, shit can hit the fan faster and harder then a dude with a fat chick fetish. It should not come as a surprise that a delay has happened.

Cataclysm is going to be released around november/december. It would be crazy to release your game against that behemoth, if you want some visibility. MMO can't afford having a bad start these days. .

The current pc release date is probably the best time they have to release the game

I think that depends. If there aren't that many people playing at start, I don't think that's a 'bad start' by default. But if the game is glitchy and unstable, people won't get a good first impression.

If it was simply about lack of initial players, I don't think that would be a problem since the game would keep growing over time as long as something better doesn't come along.

One could argue that Cataclysm is that "something better", but if the games are different enough I don't think it's so black and white. We'll see.

My only option now is to just bite the bullet and spend over $100.00 on World of Warcraft with it's expansion packs that are somehow not bundled together for a cheaper price.. I'll definately play FFXIV when it comes out on the pS3 since i've been waiting for "Square Enix's next gen mmorpg, codenamed: Rapture" ever since 2006.

Pretty much seems to be the only real reason for this move by SE.
