If you're getting a laptop, make sure you check which graphics card it comes with. Since you only mentioned processing power, I'm not sure if you've looked into it or not, but the "mobility" graphics cards aren't the same as desktop graphics cards. The laptop models tend to perform a few notches lower.

Yes, i noticed that the graphics card seems to be the main hurdle for laptops, I was looking at the FFXIV hardware requirements (9600 for ati, 5680 for Raiden?) and a few of the pricier laptops were only at 310? Im assuming there is a different numbering system classification for laptop cards versus desktops. Its confusing as all hell. Gotta do some more research for sure.

Nvidia changed its naming scheme before the numbers reached 10000. You can probably get a general idea of what kind of card you need at this site:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...80,2621-6.html

The site doesn't have every laptop card, but at least you can get an idea. Unfortunately, the 300 series isn't listed there so you'll probably have to do a bit more work to find out how those cards perform relative to the rest.

Seriously, if anything, at least you'll be right in time for the first major update possibly fixing all the bullshit we'll have to go through for 6 months.
This pretty much sums it up. The first 6 months will be host to a lot of things needing to be tweaked, bugs and glitches, server instability issues at times and many other things. Not to mention after those 6 months we might see a big content update/small expansion type deal like RoZ which might introduce a lot of new things.

Make me wonder why you are getting it on release. Join the game 6 months later and save yourself 75$ in montly fee if it's unplayable.

    [edit]
MMO usually fix their shit in less than 1 month, and getting an headstart often help. I'm not sure how you can pretend it's a good thing to miss 6 months (unless the game realy do suck).

I agree anyone saying if you miss the first 6 months you will benefit is kidding themselves, most people won't care about the lag and glitches in the grand scheme of things.

I know we all will whinge a bit about it when it happens but for the most part we will still enjoy the experience, unless of course its broken to the point where we can't play at all, its unlikely SE will release like that anyway.

More than anything, the lack of initial content might hurt more in the long run than some glitches and early lag.

6 months of content patches really helps in that regard, but bugs/lag wise I don't think there's much difference.

If the game can be cleared in few months I could see that as the biggest problem. Then it'll be the case of "too little too late" all over again. Especially if you rush to the endgame asap. Way to ruin the game for yourself IMO.

I start my final year of university in September so I actually don't mind the delay for the PS3. It means I can't be tempted to buy it now until March/April when my dissertation will have been completed already and school will be wrapping up. ^^

I started playing FFXI about a year after EU release and it never affected me negatively. I beat CoP, RoZ etc before a lot of people who had been playing much longer than me and I was only doing about 1~2 missions a week.

I picked up FFXI my last semester of college (just a few months after it was released in the US). Playing MMOs through college just seems like a bad idea to me.

Whatever helps you sleep at night brah. I bet a lot of you that are taking this stance are the same nerds that bought the brand new PS3 at launch? Just say you cant afford it or that you dont have the means/know how to get or build a new PC right now and "fuck SE in the f'ing A" for making you guys wait. Sure, you'd sound a little bitter but the truth gets you a little respect.

Just call it what it is, your rage and fury are transparent enough as is.

FFXI PC was released in the middle of my last semester. I remember exploring West Ronfaure when a girl called asking if I wanted to come over while she tried on swimsuits. After hesitating and some waffling, I finally decided to logout.

Playing MMOs through college is definitely the worst decision.

    QFT

Alot of diehard mmo players lose out on that "college exp" by chosing game over girl. I did both!

    I'm not denying it anymore
Just saying that I believe most people will try to build their a desktop faster than a laptop. Even on this board I don't remember a topic about that (not saying there wasn't ).

I'm looking at around £180 worth of upgrades for a good graphics card (Radeon 5830) and a new PSU to support it. But it's worth it not only for the earlier release but to play in 1080p.
