Lol Day.
gettin all angry again lol
Fundamental bassline is too dark, too flat. It just sounds muddled rather than actually bringing life and driving force to the song. (In that regard, I get derock's comment about it being boring)
Nice reverb around 1:00.
Clapdrums (idk the real name for them) are pretty good. The short clap progression you hit at 2:05 is excellent and I'm disappointed it wasn't used more through the piece
All in all it's a good listen, but that bassline does kind of grate on you during the beginning and the 3:50 part where there's not much else to entertain the ears.
thanks for the input
what kind of speakers are you listening to it on? I have 2 krk 6's and 2 krk 8's. I've sent it around to friends with subs and had a chance to play it unmastered on the funktion1 system at beta and the bassline growls just the way I intended. it's supposed to just roll along nice and dark and not progress too much.
the genre is minimal techno and that's the entire concept of the track, minimal progression with some space created here and there move the track along. the points where it's just the bassline along with the synth are intended to create a dark atmosphere and provide tension. imagine being in a dark backroom afterhours in berlin and people are just swaying hypnotically to the music, now imagine the tension you'd feel with that rumbling bass and the dark synth riding on the kick.
I think I see where you're coming from on your critique of the bassline so I hope now knowing my intention and the picture I had in mind when writing it it makes a bit more sense.
as for the clap delay, that is probably my favorite part of the track and I was tempted to use it a few more times but I felt that it was so potent at what it unleashes at that point I left it as is. I feel like it will give more replay value for dj's since that one part will almost always be fresh on the ears. I may do a remix for the label that picked it up down the road and more original use of that element.
Yeah speakers aren't the greatest, I was meaning to go back and give it a listen with some good headphones but forgot. I'll try that in a few minutes.
I can understand your motivation for the bass being like it is, I suppose it's more a matter of taste than there being anything actually wrong with it. I've certainly heard ones that make you want to put a bullet in your head and this one doesn't, so it has that going for it![]()
Okay, gave it a go with a good set of IEMs (UE tf.10p) and some circumaurals (AKG K240), definitely gives that bassline some extra energy and helps fill out the mood. Nice work :D
