I read about SCH soloing Chukwa, I assume BLM/RDM can do it as well? If you careful about it's nukes I mean, how would you go about conserving MP? Or does it have really low HP?
Heres the 4 interactive items:
Gnarled Root: Quest, spawns nothing
Fragmented Nutshell: Quest, spawns nothing
Lycopodium Rootprint: Quest, spawns NM
Tahrongi Cacti: Quest, spawns nothing
One of the NM's could be related to the "Bringing down the mountain" quest, since no one seems to have completed it.
Can add this to the drops list.

Converts 70 HP to MP.
Could have sworn I'd seen it posted before, but since it's still not listed, we got a fat-lined cockatrice skin off of Alectryon. Person who popped it got the key item as usual.
Well, that means all the low-Tier key items have been found. Now we just need to pop the two NMs and get their key items for what I assume is the zone boss.
So:
A ??? requiring key items, veinous hecteyes eyelid, torn bat wing, gory scorpion claw, and mossy adamantoise shell is at (I-8).
Requires 8 NM kills assuming you don't buy the pop items (could knock it down to 4 if you did):
An item from Hecteyes + Halimede (popped with an item from Clionid) + Vetehinen (popped with an item from Limule) = Ophanim (veinous hecteyes eyelid)
An item from Bats + Cannered Noz (popped with an item from Ghosts) = Treble Noctules (torn bat wing)
An item from Canyon Scorpions + Gancanagh (popped with an item from Mandragora) = Hedetet (gory scorpion claw)
Chukwa, timed pop (mossy adamantoise shell)
A ??? requiring key items, fat-lined cockatrice skin, sodden sandworm husk, luxuriant manticore mane, and sticky gnat wing is at (I-5).
Requires 8 NM kills assuming you don't buy the pop items (could knock it down to 4 NM kills if you did):
Abas (popped with an item from Efts) + Cluckatrice (popped with an item from Cawks) = Alectryon (fat-lined cockatrice skin)
Minhocao, timed pop (sodden sandworm husk)
Tefenet (popped with an item from Coeurls) + Hieracosphinx (popped with an item from Manticores) = Muscaliet (luxuriant manticore mane)
Adze, timed pop (sticky gnat wing)
A ??? requiring key items, overgrown mandragora flower and chipped sandworm tooth is at (F-5).
Requires 18 NM kills total, 10 minimum if you bought pop items:
We assume the two keys for this are from the above two NMs.
Now, interesting dilemma. We haven't found a use for the Moaning Vestige NM yet. Either (unlike every NM in the zone) he doesn't drop a Rare or Key item used to pop the next tier, or we're missing something.
I don't know if this is news, but here's a SS of a Mictlantecuhtli drop, he's a corse NM if we didn't know:
http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showp...&postcount=637
Since no one has posted the T3 VNM from Tahrongi defeated yet and the Vestige resembles a piece of an empty, there is a good chance that it comes from that NM. Usurper IIRC.
Hell no one has even posted drops from the T2 VNM either so that also is up in the air. I was in that group that killed the Corse but that SS only shows the Magian item... the "true" drop is still a mystery.
None of the other Tier VNMs drop pop items, do they? I'd agree that it looks like something that would drop from an empty (for sure), but it doesn't seem to fit the pattern. Single, rare item pops are generally from a zone mob family. Still, we're running out of zone families. If it wasn't going to be an empty, my money would be on undead to drop something like "Moaning Vestige." It would be somewhat out of place considering they already have an NM, but maybe Corses?
Mictlantecuhtli appears to be a timed pop at G-5, which fits with most of the other mobs that drop items for the OAT Magian quests.
Remaining are:
Lachrymater --UNKNOWN-- : Its name is either a bastardization of Tear gas or means crying mother. I can't think of any FFXI mobs that cry, but moaning vestige does come to mind. Maybe it's a Weeper?
Chloris --UNKNOWN-- : Probably the Mandragora NM. It means Greenish, Fresh, Springy, etc. They have a freaking flower, end of story.
Glavoid --UNKNOWN-- : People were saying Sandworm for him before, and now google is full of people saying "Where the fuck do I get Glavoid shells."
Lacovie --UNKNOWN-- : Likely a turtle NM.
Cuelebre --UNKNOWN-- : Minidragon NM
Quetzalli --UNKNOWN-- : Literally means Feather, kind of means beautiful when used as an adjective.
Myrmecoleon --UNKNOWN-- : Probably Antlion NM
Ambuscader Antlion x5 : Obviously Antlions
Iratham --UNKNOWN-- : My detective work tells me it means a chariot in Tamil. SALVAAAAAAGE
Three of them are the unpopped key item NMs.
One of them is popped via Moaning Vestige.
The Antlions and an Antlion NM are probably in there too.
That leaves 3 unaccounted for. Maybe quests or lottos?
Regarding big boxes, my group got one after about a 3-4 hour session in Tahrongi. Unfortunately, it only had some temp. items.

Looks like Wailers & Lachrymater(NM) are just the mysterious Xzomits of Tahrongi. I would assume they spawn just between the Pachypodiums and manticores or maybe just outside the Pass, on the western side... The corse are far North, aren't they?
Lachrymater - I believe you're right on this one. My first search into Lachrymater got tear gas, which seemed weird.. but if you consider the crying one, then its most likely a Weeper and an NM at that. It's likely popped by the Moaning Vestige too.
Additional notes: Each Abyssea zone features 2 of the 6 Empty mobs. The other 5 have made their appearance but Weepers have not. Unlike in Dem & Holla, Mea doesn't have its first tier VNM pop as a common Empty mob (eg Weeper, instead of Craver which is 'mea' specific). Also, there are 5 Lamenter mobs in Tahrongi that have not surfaced yet. Lament = Cry and the -er nomenclature fits perfectly too. I think these 5 mobs drop the trigger for this NM.
Chloris - 100% Mandragora. see 2 leaf Chloris Bud item. one of the 3 key item ???s.
Glavoid - 100% Sandworm. see Regurg. wing. One of the 3 key item ???s.
Lacovie - most likely Adamantoise with horns.
Cuelebre - most likely a Wyrm (specifically Ouryu model because it was in the dats) since mythology suggest a large serpent-dragon with wings and hard scales
Quetzalli - Quetzalli apparently means large brilliant tail feather. Its a bird to say the least. FF lore: Quetzalli is an Esper in FF6 (aka Palidor). Colorful bird. FFXI version will most likely be Suzaku (was also in the dats)
Myrmecoleon - 100% antlion
Ambuscader Antlion x5 : Probably Myrmecoleon's pets, or something.
Iratham - apparently the name of the Rook in ancient Indian chess-like game of Chaturanga. Official website calls it a Caturae. Its like a statue and one of the few truly new models in game atm (posture and various motions is kinda like dvergr tho.) Interesting thing to note about them from model viewer is that they can use a forcefield thing aroud it similar to Soulflayers.. and can make their eyes glow.
I'm betting on this to be the zone boss for Tahrongi, partly because of the way NM titles are sorted by the game..
how did your burn on bats go? better than mandies?
Don't quit your day job.

Has been on the add-on site labeled "Iratham" since before the update.
How can iratham be the zone boss when the tahrongi entrance CS asks you to defeat the worm (glavoid). Don't the other two zones have zone bosses that follow more of a glavoid pop structure and are also referenced in the entrance cs? Or am I mistaken (at work so don't have my logs).
nope, the quest seems to always go for a tier 2 NM. Kukulkan, Briareus and Glavoid are all the quest targets but aren't the final NM in the zone because they drop key item trigs to other NMs...
also, Konschtats zone boss has been confirmed to be Eccentric Eve (purbol)
edit: on a strange note as well, the other 2's zone bosses are fare easier to reach than Tahrongi if you go by number of NMs alone and dont even consider the trigger drop rate.
the people who killed Eve in Konschtat said she was a pushover.. which is kinda sadi thought she'd be harder.. guess they were prepared.
you'd be right to say each zone has other upper tier NMs tho..
if title dropping is an indication of difficulty.. each zone as 6 upper tier NMs. 3 always seem to be within the main zone boss flowpath. (2 tier 2 & 1 tier 3 above them).
one of the others is the VNM one, and the other 2 off the main path have not been accounted for in all 3 zones (cept maybe LaTheine's Karkinos but reports are mostly hearsay >_>). They're probably a lot simpler to reach tho.. because most of them don't require key items or triggers at all. Problem is we don't even know how to pop them lol.. but I don't think they'd be harder than zone boss if only because they're easier to get to
