Maybe someone has to be in sea and hit the ebony panels, or maybe you need to /cheer under him with jailer weapons. Or maybe you should die and home point under him.

Well lets look at what we have here:

Each zone now has a version of an avatar based on the zones "elemet" Bhumi, tahronghi, earth; Akash, la theine, space; and Pavan, konsh, wind. Along with each of these is a correlating NM that is unreachable in each zone, they don't even show up on widescan (I can confirm this personally)

Ovni, a UFO named for the spanish name for UFO floating up in the air in la theine, correlation: Akash is Carbuncle model, avatar of space/whatever, Akash is the Bhuddist or whatever name for the space element.

Turul, a dragon/bird in konshtat, also does not show up on widescan and does not aggro, just like Ovni. Wind? Air? Dragon? Bird?

I forgot the name of the NM in the dats for tahronghi, however we have yet to actually see it, though it could very well be an antlion hiding underground so we wouldn't see it. This would clearly make hunting down this NM much harder than the rest.

I'm going to try and see tonight if a, ahem, certain program picks up Ovni illegitimately, and then wander tahronghi looking for another certain NM that is on the radar but clearly not.

Anyways, at the same time some people have found correlations of movement and patterns of popping/repopping between a bird NM and Bhumi in tahronghi, which wouldn't really make sense if Bhumi was meant to pop/make aggressive some other NM.

If there is a connection the first I'd try and test is sending out pairs of red mages and rangers, set up red mages with solid kiting gear, W legs for sure, etc etc, and hunt down and claim as many akashii you can find. Drag them all to near ovni, then have the main alliance standing nearby waiting. Bring the Akashii together and get them all down to 5~10% hp, then have a handful of blackmages time AoE nuke them and kill them all at the same time.

This should test the most variety of possible situations possible. Bringing them all together, having them all dead, and killing them all at the same time AND killing an akash under Ovni.

If nothing happens that should disprove several theories in one go at least.

not really relevant to La Theine but the one in Tahrongi is Myrmecoleon (antlion) and his disguise would be 'below ground'

but since we don't even know how Orcus-types would spawn/appear deaggroed we dont know for sure how he'll appear when he has 'popped' on the server.

if its like normal pit antlions, then perhaps thats what the few Ambuscader Antlions in the dats serve to do. to help you locate/be aware of his presence.. or he could just have half his body popping out of the ground (like some classic FF antlions)

    but back to Ovni.

Dragging and then killing all 5 Akash's, if people can even find it, is quite a difficult task, especially considering the number of aggroable things along the way in some places.

I'd thought that being in the same ally and having a bunch of people claim each akash and kill would perhaps build up some kind of hate level on anyone in the PT and make Ovni aggro, hence pop..

complicated, but nothing about Ovni seems simple anyway

Id imagine that when the Antlions spawn that we'll hear a report of someone walking around and being pegged with a Pit Ambush from either the normal antlions or the NM. I have not checked every area of Tahrongi but are there still open areas left that could be the area where the Antlions might spawn?

It really feels like killing target NMs (title giving NMs) seems to be trigger for new foes to appear.

Their agro is probabaly more in line with family relations. Basically how certain monsters wont agro you until other ones are defeated enough times.

A common link might be the avatar (need to kill enough of them for it to become agressive). I doubt it is a 'drag them under it' scenerio.

Has anyone tried numbering the Bhumi/Akash/Pavan mobs and seeing if the numbers correlate to any specific pops/locations?

Has it really not occurred to you guys that they very well could have used the name Ovni because *WE* call them UFO's?

afaik Yovra doesn't mean shit, how you guys have decided it has to be them trying to be all mythological and shit I really don't know...

Not to mention, carbuncle has absolutely nothing to do with space... it's a kind of gem, and the only "mythology" related to it is about a beast with a big gem on its head.

If anything, in FF mythology it's about rainbows i.e. light.

Silly, the monster's name is 'Akash' which does have the space connotations; not Carbuncle itself (though the model is the same).

As for the guessing game using monster names, I've yet to find any past evidence from Abyssea to indicate any correlation whatsoever from any NM to gear drop etc etc, I highly believe that it's almost like a different team names them, not the Dev team.

What I think people should be focusing on is how other NMs have come about (Tonberries for example) which may follow similar mechanics (Fistule and NM linking) and then try them out. Although I feel like Akash 'should' be the NM due to its apparent lack of purpose, Fistule is aggroed by using an NM which already has a purpose, so we cannot rule anything out.

Akash(a) essentially means light/rainbow too, as the combination of, well, everything.

edit: well, I should say "Can be interpreted as", because you're right, in some language it does mean sky, and the multitude aether translations.

Hmm this will be my only theory on the matter but one that just struck me:

Perhaps a SMN needs to have the avatar respective to the zone out (Carby in La Thiene, Titan in Tahrongi, Garuda in Kosch) and in the right spot to aggro these NMs?

If only there was some easy way for you to test this before posting it as another harebrained hypothesis.

Maybe the mobs are there for later use. It's like a "You know what's coming..." before we get seven pages of "OMFG I CAN'T XP WITH THIS BITCH CONSTANTLY AGGROING MY XP PT!".

If only I had stones and time to spend instead of helping my ls do more important things in Abyssea...oh never mind!

But seriously look at this thread. It's gone down the path of speculation. I am just offering an idea that I can't test atm.

We had a MNK and a SAM tank with other DDs to speed it up, BRD RDMx2 WHM BLM.

It wasn't too hard to shadow tank. The annoying thing was Negative Whirl, which will kill you quickly. However, I found that as long as you have buffs available for it to steal, it won't use Negative Whirl. I've only fought it once so that may be just a huge coincidence, but I was solo tanking it while recovering from a bit of a mess and as long as I had buffs for it to steal it never Whirl'd me. Have to spam dispel obviously.

You could probably kite kill it if that floats your boat. It paths poorly and there was a fence near where we popped it (near the gigas that drop the Massive Armband, Conflux 2 I think?)

EDIT: I was the MNK, but I don't think the SAM had much trouble between Third Eye and shadows either.
