RMT much?
this merely says that your square-enix account has to match your region that you buy the game. Since I am living in EU but have a US SE account, I have to buy the US version of the game. Otherwise I have to create a new EU SE account to play the game if I buy a EU version. This has nothing to do with the actual location of where I play the game.
Also note the new 'bonus boots' need an ffxi account now if you imported like me then that's a no go as you can't link NA/EU
Any word on what payment methods will be available for JP accounts? My FFXI and SE accounts are Japanese because I imported at JP PS2 FFXI launch and they won't let me change my account. Since they stopped accepting American VISA cards for JP accounts, I'm stuck using WebMoney.
i bought the NA version of ffxi on release yrs ago and i am living in the united kingdom and i have pre ordered ffxiv from amazon.co.uk so this means i cant link them for the boots???
what if after i install i choose region or laughuage or w/e NA instead of UK and go threw my card details that way .....
also that verified by vista that happened to me and all i did was ring the bank and they set up the account so it was fine..
From the latest e-mail I got it seems like you will have an opprotunity to change your region when the site goes back up later today. I'm just assuming this means if you had originally made different region accounts you can now set it to your correct region, but it is a one time permanent thing. So if you had a NA SE account linked with your FFXI account, when you log into that account later today it will ask you to choose your region. If you select UK and have purchased a UK FFXIV it's possible that you will still get the boots. This is only speculation.
Also it seems they will be region blocking IPs when logging onto the site if your IP doesn't match the region chosen for your account. More info on this here:

Annoying, all this cross region bullshit makes my head spin. As long as I can link my NA FFXI account to my EU FFXIV account I'll be happy though. Even if I can't, I'll just be using EU stuff from here on because dealing with regional crap is tedious.
Just gonna point out here that I updated my account info to point to the US. Even though I am in Europe I had no problems setting it to the US and I logged out and back in to confirm that I had no problems logging in from Europe to my US account.
Changing for NA to EU:
Can confirm that if you have a NA SE-account linked to a NA POL/FFXI and login + change the region to EU (Sweden in my case), the previous NA POL/FFXI-service follows over to EU nicely. The startpage shows both FFXIV (from being in the beta) as well as Playonline(Final Fantasy XI/Tetramaster).
This would imply that getting the "bonus speedshoes" works.
Australian FF player here. Currently in Japan but planning on travelling back to Australia, then spending time in the US and/or EU. What do?
Thinking of just getting EU version from somewhere. I heard from some ppl that where you get the game doesnt matter cuz you can choose language/region when you install it. Wondering if I can just go to Yodobashi Kamera in Osaka (big PC/games/electronics place) and buy a copy here in Japan, but worried I'll waste $90 and 3 hours of my time just to get a fancy paperweight that I cant install/play in a language I understand more properly lol.
What a pickle.
