I think the main thing is that you got like all the best world boss gear and then, instead of making a new account, just deleted the toon less then a week after getting zap bow. Pissed a lot of ppl off and made me laugh. It is important for people who lack attention in other parts of their life, so they make a "reputation" for themselves in game and think other players will go OMG ITS DAT GUY WHO IZ RLY GUD. QQing over a name is silly, because no matter what name you have, it's the way you interact with people that is important, not about the stories people heard about you. The only legitimate argument here would be that you like your name or that it has some signification for you outside of the e-peen one and even then, a pretty name is easy to find/make. Gotta agree with everyone else that this is a mess, but nothing of such great importance as some try to make you think.

For me it's less about some sort of "reputation" (I have none and I would never be so retarded to claim that I did) and more that I just..like the name that I picked. I've had it since launch, and I don't really feel like changing it.

Edit: And a quick question, does anyone know how the name change tickets work? Do you take it to an NPC or do you just right click on the ticket to "use" it and enter your new name?

Because ive 2 versions ^^. Left ones the ellie right ones the asmo version Might sound silly but lets face it since launch its been one screwup after another even with version updates etc you cant get a strait answer and now with names its prolly the most important issue to players and it feels like the decision to do so was just a halfarsed last minute decision. This could turn into the straw that broke the camels back. Theres others there feeling the same way and these merges were meant to help solve population issues but this decision regarding name changes could easily accellerate the decline. A drop from 32 to 13 servers after 10 months is NOT a good sign for a game it took FFXI more than 8 years to do a server merge and it was nowhere as near as big as WoW.

Wait, so you've leveled 16 toons to level 30+? O.O You have a 47 Elyos Ranger and a 47 Asmo Ranger? maybe it's just me, but that sounds completely retarded. Surely if you leveled maybe 5 classes to 30+ you'd know which you enjoy and which you don't lol but oh well.

@Naiya. I prolly wouldve only levelled about hakf the amount had it not been for the daevanion set and wanting to see both sides. By the time id done that id had extra slots and it was VERY easy to level characters during double exp so i ended up with a bunch lvl30. Igot sick of the grind at 41+ and before 1.9 it was terrible even more so on the elyos side than asmo. I just enjoy making alts and since endgame was only dredg/dp/forts with crap rates i found this to be more of a constructive way to spend my time

^ This. Fuck e-rep. I've used the same name on forums, as much as I can since I first got my own pc and dialup. And the same name for characters in MMO's since I started FF XI, with the EU release.

Getting the pre-order to get my name up early, will all have been a bad joke now.

NCSoft has added an appeals process to allow people to reclaim their names if they get stolen by somebody who didn't originally have that name on their old server.

What criteria do you use to determine if my character gets its name back?

First, we ensure that your character is eligible for the name change by verifying that the requested name is the same as the name that your character had before, and that your character was level 31 or higher as of Monday, July 12, 2010.
If the requested character name is not the original name of the character that currently holds it, your character will get the name back. A character that held the name before the server merge always has precedence over a character that didn’t.
If both characters had the same name before the server merge, the highest level character keeps the name on the new server.
If both characters are of the same level, the characters’ dates of creation will be compared instead as the determining factor. The oldest character then keeps the name on the new server.

Basically, if a person takes your name and didn't originally have that name and you did, you'll be able to get it back. If both people involved did have that name originally, then higher level gets priority, and in the event of a tie, oldest character creation date wins.

This should be good news for anyone worried about losing their names to randoms who didn't have the name to begin with.

Also, this name change situation doesn't sound "too horrible", the only flaw I see is two conflicting Lv50 characters with the same name playing for the same amount of time, then it sounds like someone's getting boned. With the Appeals system it will reduce trolling and name ganking for sure. I only have a few enemies on this server and doubt any would want to even try to grief in such a way lol.

Since it hasn't been officially mentioned (officially there's no way), you CAN cancel a transfer by simply breaking any of the requirements -- put your character in a legion, put something on the broker, etc.
