b/c Shane/Lori's story getting to Atlanta is a little different then in the comics, and they need to reconcile the differences and cover all the flashbacks that happen w/ Shane later on since they likely wouldn't be able to get him back

This wasn't really a bad episode for a show they didn't know was going to make it another season.

I liked the whole CDC arc ending, which got rid of the crappy filler character and kept the cool ones around.

I just hope they don't deviate TOO far from the comic story, as it will definitely end up like Heroes if it doesn't hit the major plot points. They could drag this out for a long while if they keep adding fillers though.

Overall, not having ever read the comic, I can't say that I hated any part of it (except for the grenade blowing up... what the fuck... the shockwave only took out one window?).

Overall, not having ever read the comic, I can't say that I hated any part of it (except for the grenade blowing up... what the fuck... the shockwave only took out one window?).

Technically that window had been weakened by repeated axe and chair blows as well as being shot with a shotgun multiple times. It was slightly cracked before Rick set the grenade off. So it is possible, although not only a little bit, that only that window would break in the event of a grenade being set off next to it.

The real question should be "How did Dale and Andrea know exactly which way the rest of the group went so they could escape the maze-like building through that exact window in under three minutes?"

thank you. it's the whole 'If it ain't broke.." sentiment. Kirkman did another interview, says most of the same stuff he did before regarding the plot ( it's a bit spoilery for those that haven't read the comic ) but I still don't get his argument about Shane. He didn't know if the show would get picked up when they shot all that....

Anywho, I'm hoping they get back on track with s2 in a right proper way before I have to go all uncle joey on them.

I think the argument he's making is sort of poor. Instead of saying he didn't know if comic was going to get picked up for a long time he should explain away the show's changes by saying they are changing some deaths to keep comics readers guessing as much as everybody else, the slight changes they've made should allow them to condense any scenes that happen with Shane throughout the comics into the first few episodes of S2 to save money, and to give more of a justification for the viewer as to why Carl/the camp would fear him.

The more I think about it, having read the comic now I can totally see the threading the needle AMC style storytelling at work and am okay with this season in its entirety. Minor stuff from these episodes will go a long way to explaining Rick and others behavior better later on to the viewer. i.e.

Why they trust Rick so much even over Shane (he's gotten them out of a lot more jams then he did by this point in the comic).
Helicopter from pilot could easily be the news chopper that leads them to Woodbury, and why Rick would drop everything to chase after it again.
His positive encounter w/ the chicano gangbangers blinding him initially to the depravity of the Governor.
And working in Andrea/Dale's burgeoning romance seemed as natural if not more so then the comics. Hope T-Dog and Carol is done as well (if he's our Tyrese..)

Other reason I think he's okay with them messing with the formula is money reasons. Whether or not he thought they would get picked up for another season, the show is on a strict production budget (which will likely be doubled for next season considering the finale was the highest rated episode). So they did most of the scenes on sound stages after the first episode to save money.

Anywho, I'm hoping they get back on track with s2 in a right proper way before I have to go all uncle joey on them.

S2 speculation stuff w/ comic spoilers

Him mentioning that they could be 5 miles from Hershel's farm makes me think that maybe they will condense stuff; get to the farm, meet Tyrese/Hershel/Allen's family's all there already, or encounter Tyrese/Allen right before they go. While on the farm Rick will teach Carl to shoot, they kill Shane, and then go off to the prison. This should solve any monetary issues of the housing complex sets/more wilderness shoots and let Darabont have Jon Bernthal around for a bit longer.., However, they do it, they should use Shane's death as a climax builder, so they could alternately do Shane's death to end the first episode, Carl getting shot in the next and so on, leading to Michonne's entrance in the finale
