Awesome season finale. Looking forward to season two. This show has made me realize I'm not adequately prepared for the zombie apocalypse. Time to get to work.

Couldn't wait seemingly forever for season 2 so decided to read some of the comics... and ended up reading them all. They're damn good.

Some thoughts (don't click if you haven't read the comics)

With the changes they have made from the comics to TV (keeping Shane alive, the CDC, etc) I really hope they decide to go down the prison / Governor route although I'm wondering how they will do this with the zombies being smarter / more powerful in the TV show.

Surely the TV zombies could overpower the fences whereas the comic ones obviously couldn't... if they choose not to go this route I feel they lose one of the most dramatic parts of the comics which is when the Governor and his guys break into the prison via the tank and Lori dies. I'm sure they will think of something but I just think it would have been better for them to keep the zombies weak but focus on the power of the herds. But who knows, maybe the zombies will degenerate quicker in strength than in the comic so this can happen.

I also wonder how TV will handle some of the more gruesome parts of the comic, like Michonne torturing the Governor, the cannibals, etc. Makes me wish this show was on HBO or Showtime so they could go all out.

Given much of what surrounds the events of the survivors meeting the Governor, I question that he'll show up at all. Most of his villainy manifests in things you just. cannot. air. Like his daughter. Or him decapitating Tyreese. Or his men shooting Lori/baby to pieces. And so on...

I agree. I find it very unlikely they'd go this route, especially considering what they'd have to go through first to even get to Woodburry, i.e. Shane's death, Hershel's farm, Prison, etc. Given, they could do these things easily if they really wanted it, it would just be too much content to try and go through without losing anything important in translation.

Honestly, I'd rather the show just do it's own thing, adding tidbits here and there from the comic where it fits.

keep in mind its only TV-14 now and look at what they've aired. @ TV-MA given some of the gore that has happened on Breaking Bad, I'm sure they can get away with pretty much everything in the comics if they don't shoot it frame by frame but rather film it more cinematically, i.e. Tyrese's beheading (have Tyrese kneeling, Governor standing over him with the sword threatening Rick, and then him bringing down the sword, and instead of showing him cutting through his head show Rick's face as it happens and then quickly move the camera to the corpse to confirm he's dead. Nothing about his daughter is THAT unairable, its him pulling teeth from a zombie, which they can get around with camera angles again and then making out with her?

The zombies/prison fence is also plausible within the tv zombies, the ones in the 2nd episode are a mini herd to explain how their weight brought down the fence, in the prison they come up with ways to thin the herd, and almost a year passes by the time the prison saga is over, even if part of their brain is still active, their muscles will have degenerated quite a bit and they won't be as strong.

I do agree that Governor should not be a season 2 likelihood as I have said before, if anything having Rick see the helicopter (again) would be a good way to close off the 2nd season w/ a cliffhanger for tv viewers and a nod to comic readers that Governor is incoming, much like how Jenner's joke about Carl is a nod telling us that Shane's days are numbered for next season.

Fair enough on that. Michonne's rape can be implied easily enough, and the violent parts of the Governor / Prison storyline is what I was more on about

Like Lori and the baby being shot, the crazy accountant killing the girls, Tyrese beheading etc etc, Ricks hand, the cannibal hunter arc after the prison. I'm not too concerned about that stuff, I don't think they'll edit too much of that

Season 2 of Mad Men has an episode where titcow (the overly busty redhead that gets posted everywhere) is raped that was TV-14, granted its nowhere near as violent as Michounne's but they can get around it easily by just showing the beginning of it, and shifting to Glenn's cell and just giving us the sounds (makes for a much more horrific scene anyways).

As for Finesse's stuff

I don't see why Lori and the baby is that unfilmable, its not that violent if you change the camera angle. All the beheadings should be possible considering Breaking Bad got away with one. Cannibals should be fine given that the subject matter isn't unfilmable and most of the gruesome things Rick does as retribution happen off camera.
