He fucking said why earlier. It's more fun to break someone then kill him. Plus if you paid attention in the episode, Carl saw a side of Negan that no one else has when he apologized for making fun of his eye socket. If anything this pretty much followed this sequence in the books exactly outside his wives being dressed sluttier in the comics. But then again we can't expose people to seeing girls dressed like they are working dollar night at the strip club.

I think its probably also because Negan knows that no matter how broken Rick is, if he kills Carl its going to cause war. And even if he would win that war, he would rather have Alexandria working for him than wasting his resources and killing his people.

Negan was off camera and was being shielded by his Saviors. Carl made it clear the only one he wanted was Negan after mowing down the first two. If he tried to go straight after Negan, he'd be dead. Dunno why I am explaining this to you since you get whooshed in every tv show and movie you watch anyways.

Except it was pretty clear he had a good shot of Negan from the Truck. And a good shot of Negan from behind when he was HOLDING HIS BAT FOR HIM.

This show is filled with opportunities for everyone to face fuck Negan. It's why the ratings are plummeting. There's no conflict. It's just cocky Negan rape.

Which if you read the books, same thing. They have no clue how the saviors will react if negan gets killed. And his shot wasn't very clear after mowing down two guys and getting into position. He's got one clip which he already exhausted at least half the bullets from.

I havent read the comics, but I'm pretty sure Carl wanted to get out of there alive. He probably had a (really stupid) plan about sniping Negan with that rifle and getting out alive.

Pretty clear shot, was even walking all slowly, could have shot him in the leg or something at least.

And yeah could have smashed his head in from behind with the bat, like conan decapitating falsa doom.

Other guys weren't even armed, at least not with machine guns or anything.

You do know that clips have a finite amount of bullets, right? Not to mention in the heat of the moment he could have thought about what happens next: he's got 10 Saviors there, and the gun fire would attract the nearby ones, and those ones would be coming with guns.
