I have a feeling it'll be like the prison attack in that the finale will end partway through an assault; if it even makes it that far along this season. I'm pretty sure I read that Jeff Morgan is coming back for next season.

You have to remember, in every instance when Rick went up against the big bad, they never explicitly state what their plan is. The reveal of what they planned is what gets the audience glued to the screens.

He is signed on for next season. I don't think the war will last past the midseason finale next year though.

I'm not convinced Eugene will stay on Negan's side after watching the doc get burned alive. But he will bide his time and do his best to survive in the meantime.

Killing the doctor was the first stupid thing I've seen Negan do. Even if the doctor had done what Dwight was framing him for, you don't waste an asset like that. A medical doctor in a post apocalyptic world is too high of value.

Yeah, that seemed a little moustache twirling over-the-top villainous for a guy who is normally pretty calculating; it felt forced. He's assuming Eugene's going to be the doctor now? Eugene's smart, sure, but he's not an actual trained physician; Negan should be smart enough to realize that. I understand the writers wanting to do something along those lines for plot development, but don't pick the doctor. Pick someone else relatively technical (but less essential) who Eugene could replace a little more believably (fence security, mechanic, blacksmith, etc).

P.S. Also, Eugene never said he was a medical doctor. He said he had a doctorate. PhD =/= Doctor. Also, during the scene where he's making the poison, he postures as the new Engineer. He pulled the same bullshit story on Negan that he pulled on Abraham in order to stay alive.
