WoW has to be 10x easier than FFXI to be honest.
I really don't have much advice to spare... only websites :D
Edit::: I'm going to just give you the Google names because the forums wont let me post links until i have a post count of 10 :O
Google Elitistjerks. And go to Forum on the top.
--Browse this forum to learn EVERYTHING about your class. When you hit level 80 you'll start raiding. By going to your class forum and reading up on FAQs you'll pull MORE dps than anyone who doesn't know how to play their class. Be the best. Knowledge is power.
Google WoWhead.
--If you ever have trouble doing a quest, or want to look at pretty epic lewt, check this site out. It's pretty much an online db of every item, quest, mob, you name it. Just type in the name of what your looking for and your golden.
Google MMO-Champion | worldofraids
--Go here to stay on top of updates for the game. Cataclysm closed beta is out as of a couple of days ago and this site is getting spam updated with all the cool stuff that's coming out. The class forums are also a good place to hang around. Use your head tho, I've seen some moderators be biased with their opinions on how a class should be played. Use multiple sources, and if it works... Do it.
Google Tankspot.
--Like I said before, once you hit 80 you'll start raiding. You're going to be facing raid bosses with an array of abilities and the raid will need a strategy to down him. If your ever confused about a raid encounter, check this site out. Fully narrated PoV videos will guide you to not being a noob and standing in Malleable Goo.
There are countless other resources that I'm sure I've missed but meh. I'm pretty sure these are the best ones out there.
WoWhead > Allakhazam + Thottbot :D
Also, YOUTUBE! Countless video guides on there.
Happy Leveling!
yeah Wowhead is a pretty Basic source to get some info from, i still Love WoW only came back to ffxi for the lvl cap increase . . . but might go back to WoW >.>
Cool thanks. But yeah just playing WoW till FFXIV comes out. Definetly check out the sites thanks for the info.
Don't google WoW website names.
Find out the names and type them yourself.
The game isn't easier but rather things come at a faster pace in regards to leveling and crafting. Overall, WoW is a better game imo because I can do things on my own as needed. I use WoWhead for most my research and such as it is a pretty good database but even the actual Blizzard/WoW forums are good for info too.
another helpful one is bosskillers . com
When visiting any of these sites, definitely have your virus, malware and firewall all up to date. If you think key loggers and phishing in ffxi were bad, you've seen nothing yet.
Another major difference is that blizzard will allow you to mess with your own UI. I think if you've been playing for a few weeks, you will have run into this at some point. I'd suggest wowinterface.com for most of your needs. Avoid curse.com, lots of nasty stuff there.
There's nothing wrong with curse, just virus check your shit. Some of the best addons are only kept updated via curse.
Curse is well known to have several issues, mostly because they do little to no checking of what people upload there. If someone is new and doesn't know what exactly they are looking for, they could be inviting someone to drop an exe in their addons. None of what they offer can't be found elsewhere, either the same addon, or something comparable.
This just in: bad people do bad things on the internet.
If you intrinsically trust any of the content on ANY of these sites, you're a moron. wowinterface got a bannerbomb (think like ffxiah/ffxiatlas attack) and a vbulletin injector (pretty sure BG switched to PHP because of this one) a while back, this really isn't specific to any one site.
Use your head, check user feedback and author stats, and scan anything you download for potential threats. The LUA itself can't do anything because none of it is loaded until your character is, and is purged on exit, so any malicious code should be visible as soon as you download the package.
Edit: Bleh, double post.
The only people I know who had issues with curse were already infected and decided to blame curse. I've been using it for 2 years, no issues, and the same goes for a lot of people I play with.
^ dis. Curse's interface is way nicer to use, and I don't think it's any better/worse than any other site.
also as note, don't be stupid about websites like others said, but if something happens don't panic either. This isn't FFXI. Blizzard logs everything, so when you report it they will dupe whatever you're missing and give it back to you (gold n' all). It usually takes about a week to get everything back too.
Oh and just to warn you, people have nothing to stop them about being douchebags in the game (FFXI is much more obsessed with reputations). That doesn't mean everyone acts like a douche, but just don't let idiots get to you. More often than not they're 9th graders playing on their parents accounts anyways.![]()
Downloading addon can't infect you (as long you don't install anything). Even if there is a virus in the zip, it wont activate itself on its own, and WoW client can't be infected running a corrupted file. Basically, if you get infected, it's usually because you browsed an infected website.

I don't think they are 9th grader sadly, but they are definitively not much older mentally. Just ignore them, you will meet plenty of cool people if you're not the douchebag yourself.
From what I've noticed so far from my experiences with this game, and its going to be my first official month.
1. It is -not- as easy to level in this game as it is in FFXI. idgaf what anyone tells me, even though you can quest and get a decent amount of exp, it still can take quite sometime for you to get to 80. However refer-a-friend 1-60 is pretty cake, and quite fun too.
2. PvP is spectacular, though sometimes can be a bit ridiculous. I consider myself decent on Shadow Priest, and I hope to get better hopefully.
3. Social aspect in this game is not as great as it was on FFXI, but since I play with a close group of friends, it doesn't affect me as much. Little kids are dime a dozen in this game, and that shit can get annoying. Also, people can be extremely rude on this game. First few days of me playing, I was getting called a shitty healer by other people in our dungeons, yet I hadn't been playing for that long.
I can only imagine how this game was before instant queues. Also I don't understand why people think this game is so much easier than FFXI. FFXI was a cake-walk if you were in a good linkshell (as I was my last few months of playing; shit was so easy, it got extremely boring. Best LS on the server, no one could touch us on HNMs).
Either or, you'll love this game. It revolves around you for the most part, which is why I love it so fucking much.
So basically you got carried in CoP and Zilart?Originally Posted by Despain
3 months of normal leveling to get lvl80, like 2 of semi-hardcore grind (No heilrooms on either case, just previous knowledge of the game)
Also, most people talk about XI pre-'EZ mode' updates like level sync. And even then I dont see how it would be easier to level (to 99! ;p) these days than reaching 80 on WoW
Unless you're talking about a job that can easily solo level in ffxi, WoW wins on easiness based purely around being able to do without needing to deal with other players
There's the whole dependency on subjobs to help the leveling process too.
