    Copying a movie to dvd

Can anyone suggest a dvd software for burning a video on my computer to a dvd that will play on a generic dvd player?

I use 'Convert X to DVD', you can put that in search on pirate bay and download the version with the most seeders. Really simple program, just drag any avi/mkv/mp4 etc into the box and hit convert; it'll convert the file and put it into a temp folder, then burn it onto the CD in TS form so you can watch it on DVD players, then clear the temp folder. Amazing program.

This is the software I usually used, I think we got a copy free with our DVD burner though. There's a free Lite version of Nero 9 available, but it seems some of the capabilities for making a regular movie file (.avi, .wmv, etc) into a playable DVD might be limitted to the paid version.

If you want more customization options (and an application that uses one of the best burners out there, ImgBurn, for the end of the process), I recommend this above the aforementioned: DVD Flick. It lets you create customized menus, chapters, and so on, so forth. Works very well.

A quick run-down on how to use it:

"Add title...": This is where you select the video file you'd like to create a DVD of.

"Edit title...": This is where you set the name that's displayed on the DVD menus, the aspect ratio, how many chapters you want, et cetera.

"Project Settings": As it implies, here you'll set everything you couldn't under "Edit title...". None of the fields on these menus are redundant, so you should rename the project in both places. Also, check "Burn project to disc" under the Burning menu, or it'll just create an ISO on your hard drive.

"Menu Settings": Self-explanatory (it's the menu you'll navigate with your remote, which you can disable altogether by clearing the "Auto-play menu" box.

When you're done, save your project first, then hit "Create DVD" and go through the prompts. Congratulations, you're making a DVD.

There any options to choose the background music for the DVD menus in any of those programs? If i make some naruto DVD's i want the Killerbee and Raikage fights( i love watching Sasuke get the shit beat out of him) to have the theme of " Wu tang aint nothin to fuck with" playing in the background.

Unfortunately, this is one of the only things that DVD Flick doesn't do. If you're dedicated enough, however, you can use DVD Flick to create the files you'll need for burning (by not selecting "Burn project to disc" in the short guide up above; it'll just create the necessary file structure in a directory on your HDD, which you can burn with any DVD authoring program), then use another application to create your menu with audio embedded, and burn it all to a disc afterward.

I use Convert X to DVD myself.

Never had any problems at all with it.

    necro

Trying to copy a dvd with protection to my HDD. I tried using a few programs but the best result I could get was full video (without artifacts or green blocks), but no sound. I checked the settings on the program and when I insert the dvd the sound track doesn't even come up, only the video.

Any one got any suggestions on what to do to get around this protection? I'm using dvdfab atm, trying to copy p90x to my HDD.

You could try downloading a free trial of Slysoft's AnyDVD. That's worked for me where DVDFab has failed a few times.
