Very few RPG types do WELL nowadays, in Japan and out. I mean Final Fantasy is probably the most well known RPG series in the world and even FF13 got alot of shit since it went back to turn based combat which many consider old. Tales of series is probably more revered in Japan and the rage when a shitty Tales game hits the market is very vocal, you can't really get away with making mediocre RPG's anymore.
If they made Breath of Fire into an action rpg with a good story and such it'd probably do well, but would probably require too much of a staff + money to be worth it when they can just make another Resident Evil or Monster Hunter and have it sell for more almost guarenteed. Doesn't mean it won't happen but unless something has changed in a year to change their view on RPG's, I wouldnt hold my breathe for a new BoF game.
Edit:
Megaman Maverick Hunter X? The first game was amazing but didn't sell well apparently so they dropped it, would have done better on the consoles or the DS(the DSi can probably run the game close to how it ran on the PSP thinking about it...)
