    Burglary

As the title states. My house was broken into Saturday morning between 4-6:30 AM. I have a very good idea of who it was (I saw the guy in my house around 4am) and have people that saw this person outside of my house around that time acting suspicious.

What can I do to get this cocksucker? How do I go about getting video surveillance of the purchases made through a stolen credit card? (used in 3 locations)

Total estimate of all items stolen is about 16g.

I had my credit card stolen once, best thing I could say is turn everything over to the police, and after you do that, stay on top of it. Your case will be assigned to a point of contact, call them daily. (For a felony amount of 16k, I'm sure they will be more likely to pursue your leads than the 300$ I had taken from me.)

Go to the places that he used your credit cards at. See if they have cameras facing the registers / customers. If so talk to the manager. They probably won't release the tapes to you, but they can make sure they do not get recorded over. (as an example, my company's security cameras are all digital and loops every 50 days.)

Also, you can report the person to the FBI or the Secret Service as they have an active Identity Theft division. (assuming the person used your credit card posing as you).

16g? Goddamn man, why you posting on BG? In situations like this you can't really do anything besides going to the cops. Just give 'em the description of the guy, even better would be to get the other people who saw him as well. Show 'em what was bought w/ the credit card and then the cops will most likely go to the locations and check security footage around the time of purchase to find the guy. With 3 locations it shouldn't be too hard for them to narrow it down.

I went to the cops already. Gave them all the information (name, phone number, address) of the person (not a friend of mine but I know who it is) and gave them a list of the items missing.

I'm just posting here to see what else I can do because I want to get this fucker.

Uh. What do you mean you saw the guy in your house at 4am? Were you home...or just standing outside your house watching someone go through it? lol. Sounds odd.

My house was broken into last October, stole my xbox, wii, laptop. Didnt get much else because they were too lazy to take my desktop and TV and stuff. They pawned my stuff and I got it back. I was very lucky it was recovered. It wasn't anyone I knew after watching surveillance from the pawn shop, but as far as I know they never pursue the person even though they had the DL of the person "Not enough evidence" You just have to document everything, give the police your serial numbers to what was stolen. Other than that, unless they actively find the person (which there generally isn't enough evidence to convict) you probably won't see your stuff. If you have insurance that covers burglaries, I'd just take that and move on (or move houses like me lol). They went thru my doggy door in the back door because I have a fat dog. But most def good luck to you. I wouldn't confront the person who you suspect did it alone.

Definitely didn't do it alone ( a 50" samsung HDTV was taken). Yeah I saw this guy in my house, I was passed out in my kitchen living room. The reason I didn't do anything is because I had people over just a couple hours before that (the last person leaving at around 3:30 when I locked the doors) he was one of them, a friend of a girl that is a very good friend of mine (she was talking to this guy). I did ask him what he was doing in here and he said he was looking for his wallet, I asked if he had found it in which he replied "yeah" I said "ok" and didn't think much of it at the time because I was pretty much asleep, dead tired from work the past two days and it was 4AM (I had woken up at 6:30AM the previous day).

My family went through the same shit, we knew who he was and other people saw him around the area etc. etc. The police couldn't do shit about it, but our stuff was insured and got most of it back. Anyway, if you don't have conclusive evidence you can't really do anything about it. So, if you saw him or there are witnesses that saw him walking out w/ your stuff then you have a case. If you can somehow get your hands on the tapes you mentioned. That being said, I hope you had all your stuff insured.

Well my buddy and I both saw him in the house after I locked the doors. People saw him outside about an hour after he supposedly left. One girl claims to have seen him running somewhere. He wont pick up the girl he was talking to calls anymore. It's just very suspicious. To me it just adds up that it was this guy, but obviously can't be sure unless there is video to confirm it.

I believe the house is insured for this type of thing.

I fucking hate when people steal. If its from a store, I don't think its OK, but its not as bad as stealing from some person. Its even worse that you let him in your house before he did it. I hope something gets done about this, or you can get even somehow.

I'd recommend taking this down, and not have any public view on you "getting this cocksucker". My brother had something similar happen, and someone made a comment on his facebook which was brought up in court. Either way, I hope you get your money money and stuff back though :/

Be careful about thinking too hard on revenge and stuff.

Don't get a gun unless you really plan to use it and if you do, get training on how to.

Keep your reactions to the break in, within the law.

Your credit card company should cover you for the fraudulent purchases but file a fraud report and get new card issued to a safe mail box.

He likely still has your card info so get a credit analysis/flag your credit report for any possible fraud/identity theft from the same person.

    File a police report.
Filing the report also gives you paperwork you can send to the cc company if they insist on proof.

If you REALLY know who did it, you can report that to the police as well and might have more motivation for them to do a full report (try and emphasize that it is important for them to file for you regardless of the odds of catching the burglar. You can tell them you need paperwork info for insurance so ask for copies.)

Print out timestamped history log of web site info/computer activity if burglar used your computer to make purchases. (Seemed to me like you said he used your computer for the cc purchases). Use it in police report.

Log all expenses created by the burglary and you can use it to press charges for reimbursement of damages if burglar is caught.

Vid surveillance can be inexpensive and there are plenty of gadget web sites that define how to do it. )
Knowledge about reinforcing locks and entrances safely is on government sites as well as many do it yourself techie/gadget sites online.

I don't know how much budget you have to spend on hiring a professional service to wire, alarm or surveillance your home but of course that is an option.

    Change your locks/rekey

Make sure your mail box key if you have one, gets changed and same for car keys if they were taken. (Sometimes cheaper to reroute all mail to PO box vs new key).

Make sure all entrances are well reinforced.

If it is an apt, tell the owner/mgr immediately so that the complex can be made aware of potential theft occurring again (that is if you aren't a personal target by a burglar who knows you personally vs a random one who will hit other apts.)

Restraining orders are also possible if the person is really into you.

    <3
I wish you the best of luck in dealing with this but don't let it make you restless.
